A question about : Water usage down, bills up, when water meter installed

I'm all in favour of water meters, they are fair - as long as the water company isn't just trying to make a quick buck when they make you get one.
Our house used to be a 4-bed house with a 2-bed annexe (same address and water bill) and large garden - in one of the more affluent parts of Bristol (i.e. high rateable value). As such the water bill when we were not metered was about Ј35 per month.
Then the house was split into two properties, and we were forced to have a meter.

A question about : Water Meter Increase

My house is a 3 bedroom terraced house in Southampton and there are 2 of us who live there. We used to have a fixed yearly fee of about Ј200. The water company gave us no choice to have a water meter fitted, and to our horror, the annual water bill is now over double at about Ј450 p/a. We live near the centre of Southampton, in a non-affluent area. When I phoned the water company they said our area has a high tarriff for water.

A question about : Water Meter and Landlord

I am currently in a flat which is unmetered. At the time of being shown round it by the agent, there was no mention made of water charges.

Sadly to my cost, I forgot to check this before moving in.

Is the agent/landlord obliged to reveal these things or is it up to the prospective tenant to ask?

A question about : Water board has taken me to court

The water board has taken me to court for Ј1300 and I now have to fill in attachment of earnings form .
Any advice on competing the form would be much appreciated .

A question about : Water bill 4x usual amount!!

Hi, received our 6 monthly water bill from thames water the other day and it's for Ј274! It's usually around the Ј70 mark, I don't pay by dd I just pay it every six months when it comes in.
We've lived here almost five years and it's always been around the same and nothing's changed, it's a 2 bed flat the meter is just outside the front door on the landing I checked it this morning and the meter reading they took about two weeks ago seems likely.

I'm so glad we went over to a water meter with Yorkshire water. Our direct debits were Ј48 before the meter, this went down to Ј28 when the meter was fitted. Just got our first annual bill and we're due a refund and the DD has gone down to Ј15 a month.
