My wife and I are joint shareholders in a Limited Company. The company has ceased trading with zero income for current year + Ј41,000 retained profit.

A question about : Bother with a company?

As a personal project to learn some web development, I created a website that checks the price of products from a number of UK retailers (Amazon, Argos, Currys etc), and then emails me when the price drops.

It was originally just something for me to play around with (the design isn't great as I'm not particularly 'arty'!), but I asked a few friends and family to try it and they found it quite useful.

As such I was thinking of monetizing it, possible via affiliate contracts, just to offset the hosting costs.

I'm looking into a possible business idea that has recently become more viable as he only other would-be competitor has relocated out of town due to new owners of the town centre wantingto changhe the layout - all of the stall/pop up type shops had been given a date to leave by and this company moved to a different town.
Anyways, so i can get an idea of what equipment costs are, could anyone who works in catering/restauant/small cafe type places share your supplier of equipment - soup tubs, juicers, blenders, ice cream display etc

One of my ideas is to start running these in the local area just wondered if anyone had any experience to pass on in particular any insurances etc i should be thinking off.

Need a venue, what insurance do i need
how much would people pay for a stall & chairs etc
should i offer refreshments

as you can tell its an idea in early days just wondered if anyone had any thoughts.

A question about : Registering as a Limited company?

Hi all,

I soon intend to launch a website, and as such am looking to register as a Limited company.
I have spoken to an accountant, who has said they charge Ј300 (Edit: Ј400) for the full set up and documentation to be dealt with by them, this includes being registered for corporation tax, PAYE etc.

I've then seen agencies specifically for this kind of service online, the main one seems to be 'Rapid Formations' and for the exact same service - they are asking for Ј93.39 inc. VAT?

If you have personal savings of Ј50K with a financial institution and you are also the owner/director of a limited company that has Ј50K in a biz account with the same institution, are both amounts covered by the guarantee?

The limited company is a legal entity in its own right, separate from the owner/director, so the savings should be treated separately. But, in this complex world of savings, are they?
