Is This Quote Fair?

A question about : For replacing flashing on roof

Hi! My roof leaked during the heavy storms last month. Stopped leaking now though. Had a roofer round to quote --

- remove flashing
- clean sarking board
- supply/fit new tilting fillets
- enlarge existing raggles
- new leadwork dressed into position
- supply and fit new flashing in code 4 lead

well, it looks like a lot but basically it's Ј528 to replace the flashing.

A question about : Annual service of gas boiler and gas sitting room fire

How much would people expect to be charged for this please?

On moving to a (slightly cheaper) area, I was rather surprised to find myself being quoted noticeably more than I am used to paying in my previous area. I was expecting the charge would be 90%-100% of what I had been used to paying.

Both in my last area and this area I have been using a one-man band (so not swopped from man-on-own to big firm).

A question about : Two Storey Side Extension, Quotes v Estimate

We have received 3 prices for a 2 storey side extension. We are in Greater London.

2 are quite close but the 3rd is a fair bit lower. Although we asked for quotes the lower one has been labelled an estimate.

The prices are

Ј80,810
Ј79,956
Ј59,400

There are a couple of differences (the higher ones allow for Ј1500 of bathroom bits and bobs for example) but nothong to account for Ј20,000 !

A question about : Replacement boiler cost

The boiler in my mother's 3 bedroom house has gone and needs replacing. It's an old open vented system with a 35 year old floor mounted heat-only boiler that has gone kaput.

British Gas have suggested a BAXI Solo 15 HE and a cost of Ј3841, including fitting. Seems very high to me.

A question about : Failed Double Glazing units

I have some failed units that I am looking to replace. They are on south facing windows both with one square non opener plus 2 smaller openers. My first thought was to replace the 3 in each window even though the smaller ones look OK, one firm has quoted me for this, another company has said only replace the ones that really need it unless using K glass.

Any thoughts on best way to go.

Also is there much difference between K glass and A rated.

Quote for removing old kitchen and installing new one in 10X10foot kitchen around 3 walls. Cost includes installing new worktops, new sink and tap, new built in appliances (oven, fridge freezer and dishwasher) and new hob in worktop.
