Is This Quote Fair?

A question about : Driveway block paving

We need to get our driveway sorted this year and so have got 4 local companies in the quote us. I've had 2 quotes so far and they are a lot, although I know that most of the cost is in the groundwork as it all needs digging out and properly preparing.

I've not done this before so was wondering whether people thought these quotes were reasonable. We are in Yorkshire in case that makes any difference.

One quote is for Ј3250 for the basic 'bricks' and another is an 'estimate' of Ј3220, so they're pretty close.

A question about : Double glazing cost- does this seem about right, or too cheap?

Hi all. - I had a quote today for some double glazing. I thought it seemed reasonably cheap, and a couple of friends have said it is WAY too cheap. - almost to the point of ' if it's too good to be true' ...

Anyway- the quote is for 13 windows-

3x3 bays - all pretty large.
4 times single windows - all about a metre wide and 150 cm tall.

Was quoted - Ј3000- any thoughts?

A question about : Painting the exterior.... Am I being ripped off...

We live on an estate that is primarily Housing Association property. We bought a house in this area recently.

The Trust that owns the properties are painting the top half of the houses (upstairs only, exterior) to all the HA tenants abd because we own our house they have asked the contractors to see if we want ours doing as well to make it look nice...

We do want it doing but the contractors are saying it will cost us Ј700 to get this done....

A question about : Fair cost for installation of storage heater

Hi all,

I need to get a storage heater replaced in my flat.

The electrician I'm using has quoted me 480.

I looked up the heater and I've found it available for 250-280 online. It's a Newlec NL10579.

He's told me that the heater part of the cost is 400 quid, then there's 80 installation on top so I'm guessing there's some marking up going on here. I think the installation cost seems ok but is a markup like that usual? I don't mind paying if I have to but did want to check.

A question about : Safestyle double glazing quote

Hello,

Last night, we had a chap from Safestyle come and give us a quote for double glazing. He did the usual tricks of phoning his manager (wow, that's much less than I thought he would say, etc etc) and gave us a quote of Ј750 (all in) for:

1x double glazed A-rated window measuring 890mm wide x 1030mm high
1x double glazed A-rated window measuring 870mm wide x 880mm high

They each have a 10-year guarantee.

Will be checking for other quotes tomorrow, but just thought I'd ask you guys first!

A question about : How to install heated towel rail over existing radiator

Hi,

I am planning to install a heated towel rail in place of the old radiator in the bathroom. My question is that how difficult is the DIY? To replace a radiator, what steps need to be taken? hpw do I stop the water flowing when I disconnect the radiator and how do I stop air being trapped in the system when I install the heated towel rail?

If I bought all the items required, how much would a plumber charge to install it professionally for me?

A question about : Low roof tiles neew repointing

Hi,

I've a low roof over my garage (attached to the house), and the tiles on the two angles (corners) of the roof have a mortar face to the outside. This has been crumbling away, so I need to get these 40 tiles re-pointed.

Does anyone have an estimate of what I might fairly expect to pay please?
