LED light bulbs

A question about : LED light bulbs

Does anyone use these in their home? What are they like? Are they any good? I want to try one, as the yellow energy saving bulbs make me feel sick. We got some Philips Eco ones from B&Q a few weeks ago which are fine, but they no longer sell them. But the LED ones are quite expensive if i find I don't like them. If I do try one, which one would I need to get if I need as much light as a 100 watt regular bulb gives out?

What combination of cooking appliances?

A question about : What combination of cooking appliances?

If you could have your choice of a combination of cooking appliances what would you pick?

We're planning a new kitchen and this is one of the many things that I'm trying to work out.

I had initially thought about a built in double oven with a built in microwave in a tall tower unit.

Laminate floor thickness

A question about : Laminate floor thickness

What should be recommended thickness for laminate floor in lounge and playroom?

I understand that these are available in 7 mm, 8 mm, 9-10 mm with pricing going up for thicker floors.

I need something to withstand kids playing around. So not sure if 7 mm is too thin for me!

Best answers:

  • I've been looking briefly, I think 8mm is the standard so I wouldn't go less than that.

Are Argos distribution centres same place as Homebase?

A question about : Are Argos distribution centres same place as Homebase?

I saw a bed in argos that showed in stock but when I clicked it said out of stock in my area. When I called they said argos have 3 uk distribution centres and its out of stock at my nearest. Asked if they can transfer from centre to centre and no they cant. On the homebase site they have the same bed but Ј70 more expensive but in stock. Could I haggle the price? To argos price as same company? Or ask argos to ship from homebase distribution centre?
Apologies if this is in the wrong place.

Is Bathstore actually cheaper instore??

A question about : Is Bathstore actually cheaper instore??

Hi all,

So I ordered a bathroom from bathstore and paid a deposit in store which they said is fully refundable if I change my mind.
I checked on their website and saw that delivery was free (store charged Ј40) and I could get cashback (TCB/quidco) approx Ј47.

Damp in conservatory

A question about : Damp in conservatory

I moved into my house last year and over the winter months the conservatory has had mould growth, and the corners of the skirting boards are damp.

The mould is on the blinds, walls and windowsill. I clean it off with a mould spray I bought but it grows back, slowly.

I initially thought it was condensation damp as the windows were wet, especially overnight so I bought a dehumidifier and I use that over night. That does tend to keep the windows dry.

I hate my freezer

A question about : I hate my freezer

I've got a frost free freezer at the moment and I find instead of preserving food, it does horrible things to it. It sucks all the moisture out of everything and makes things taste odd. I'm constantly having to refill the ice cube trays because the cubes just disappear! It's way beyond old-school freezer burn. Is this a problem with all frost free freezers or is it just mine. I want to replace it but everything seems to be frost free these days and I don't want to spend loads of money on something that's just as bad.

Painting chips in wood doors, borders

A question about : Painting chips in wood doors, borders

Hello,

In my house I have wood doors and borders (the things that are at the bottom of the walls and go all the way around?) and the bath tub is the same type of wood. I believe it is oak, it looks like it from the photo's I've looked up, it's sort of dark reddish, mahogany? Anyway, there are chips as you would expect in various places, do I paint over these? I'm not a big DIY guy and would just like to disguise the chips, as it will look better. Thanks very much title=Smile
