A question about : Are Argos distribution centres same place as Homebase?

I saw a bed in argos that showed in stock but when I clicked it said out of stock in my area. When I called they said argos have 3 uk distribution centres and its out of stock at my nearest. Asked if they can transfer from centre to centre and no they cant. On the homebase site they have the same bed but Ј70 more expensive but in stock. Could I haggle the price? To argos price as same company? Or ask argos to ship from homebase distribution centre?
Apologies if this is in the wrong place.

  • Sorry cannot answer your question but I noticed the difference in prices between Homebase and Argos and think it odd, since they are in the same store. I guess it might be franchised and that is why the prices are different. I wanted floor lamps, Ј37 from Homebase and Ј44 from Argos, since I wanted two, that is a big saving.
  • I am not sure about all Argos/Homebase distribution centres but I have a mate who works for Argos and they deliver for Homebase from their depot (Darlington).
  • Argos and Homebase are 2 different brands of same company - Home Retail Group.
  • You should question this with them, but do let us know what happened.
The only thing I can think of is the Argos arm of the company have 500 of the product and Homebase have 500, so if one sells out, it just means their allocation of that product has been sold... despite it being the same company!
I also guess if the product needs to be cleared for new stock, Argos may suddenly have more back in stock to shift it - hence they show out of stock products on their website, so it's easy to add more at a later date.
Very.co.uk and Littlewoods are also two brands of the same company.
You can usually tell as their websites will be very similar and stock similar products that can't be found elsewhere.
