A question about : Bird Of Paradise

This section of the site, because of the time of year , is a bit quite.
So will just ask a question that I have been struggling with for about four years. Has anyone successfully grown , i'e a flowering Bird Of Paradise plant. The plant looks fairly (older leaves are a bit tatty) good, had three new leaves this year.
Transplanted to a MUCH bigger pot. . lots of large roots.

What is my chances of a flower?

I have now received the Wallflowers purchased from last week's email 'offer' from Jersey, and I wonder whether others are as disappointed as I am by the quality of the plants, and the response from the company selling them? (They were also trashed in the post.)

A question about : Are mistletoe "bunches?" worth anything?

Hi all, I've recently moved to a new area and a few of the trees around my house have had all their leaves fall off revealing loads of bundles or bunches (don't know the actual term) of mistletoe.

My dad's mate said this stuff is worth something if I get these down and sell them to Christmas tree sellers.

Is this true? How much per bundle do you reckon?

A question about : growing herbs?

If I were to plant some coriander seeds (that you can buy whole as a spice), would they grow into a coriander plant? ???

A question about : Root ginger is sprouting

I`ve found a few forgotten lumps of root ginger in my kitchen (I use a lot in cooking) and they are sprouting. The sprouts look quite healthy.
Can I grow them, and how??

A question about : Fruit Trees

I managed to buy one of the Ј5 apple trees that Asda was selling a couple of weeks ago (to replace one of my Garden Bargains ones from last year)

After much humming and harring I decided to buy a couple of other fruit trees. Unfortunately I dithered so much that when I went back they had all sold out.

Can anyone remember when the likes of Morrisons, Adi or Lidl normally get theirs in.

BTW I have previously bought fruit trees for my previous house from Morrisons and they were fruiting well when we moved.

A question about : Forget-me-not care.

Hi,

I have quite a lot of these plants and some of their leaves are partly black, brown or yellow. Would you agree they have black spot disease? I have been cutting out these affected leaves and have made a homemade fungicide for them. However, now that it has become frosty and the number of plants are many, do you think it will be best to finish this task in spring? Also, thinking of dividing them next year too.

A question about : Revamping soggy area of garden

With the heavy clay soil here creating a drainage problem in an area of my garden I have decided to grow food in, it looks as if my best bet is:

- to have the top layer of soil and clay underneath it removed

- put in a layer for drainage (gravel? shale?)

- put back some new topsoil in a thick enough layer to grow my food in
