Advice needed re Lupins please

A question about : Advice needed re Lupins please

Hi,
I'm hoping someone more experienced at gardening can advise me.

I have about 50-60 lupin seedlings in pots which are about 4-5 inches tall. Should I over winter them in my unheated conservatory or will they survive if I plant them out?
I'm in the south east if that makes any difference.

Any advice would be welcome.

Thanks

Best answers:

  • I would keep them in the conservatory if it is going to get as cold after Christmas as they keep hinting

Woodland

A question about : Woodland

Hello everyone!

I am moving to the dream home hopefully within the next 7 days, it has just under an acre of land and Im so so excited/overwhelmed to go from a concrete patch to a field! It has a horse and pony on it at the moment, so is a big muddy field because of all the rain.

For financial reasons we are going to securely fence approx a third of the field into a garden which will be our main doggy safe area where I am hoping to build a small vege plot next year (another project!).

Cheap way to infill/level a garden

A question about : Cheap way to infill/level a garden

I've got a sloping garden and have decided to level the lawn, by putting up a concrete block retaining wall and infilling.

Problem is - what's the cheapest way to buy infill material? The builder's merchant didn't seem to stock anything obvious, and as I guesstimate I'll need around 2 cubic meters (possibly more) it would be very expensive to do with builder's ballast.

Any ideas for practical ways to infill would be appreciated.

Keeping slugs and snails away?

A question about : Keeping slugs and snails away?

Just moved house and have a garden 1/3 lawn and 2/3 patio, and already seeing a few skinny, lighter coloured grey slugs, we have a small dog and obviously don't want her licking or eating one (plus I can't stand them) is there any way of keeping them away? Obviously any treatment needs to be dog friendly

Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated

Artificial lawn cost

A question about : Artificial lawn cost

Hi all,

Just recently had two quotes for artificial lawn and I'm struggling to get my head around the prices so thought I'd check if anyone has any experience.

For installation and prep etc, a plot 7 sq metres, the old turf has been cleared but I appreciate there's work to be done before it is laid. The turf I'm considering retails at Ј28.50 a square metre.

Quote 1 was Ј4700 and quote 2 is Ј3000. That's a helluva pricy lawn! Does anyone have experience of pricing this job up?

Preventing self seeded sycamores and Romans

A question about : Preventing self seeded sycamores and Romans

I have a small patch of private garden for my new flat backing on to a communal one.

My bit is badly neglected, so is the border for the communal garden (which joins seamlessly to mine). My bit has a few self seeded sycamores and rowans; the communal bit is solid with them.

conifers near house

A question about : conifers near house

I have I think Port-Orford-cedar conifers as close as 8 feet to the front of my house, they look about 15 feet tall. does anyone know at what height I should cut them so it stops the root going to deep, and how deep the roots can be related to the height of the tree?

Glorious Gardens From Above

A question about : Glorious Gardens From Above

I'm really enjoying this series, presented by Christine Walkden which has been shown on BBC 1 at 15.45 during the week, and BBC2 this morning at 8.40.( from the first programme, featuring gardens of Cornwall.)
A real tonic for those of us who might be gazing out of the window at our own soggy or wind torn gardens. I hope that others will enjoy it too.
