A question about : Overpaid council tax
Very unlike me, but I paid one month too many in 14/15! I've not heard about it from the council assume I'll need to contact them for a refund rather than them automatically working it out?
Best answers:
- I expect they will work it out eventually, but it will almost certainly be quicker to ask them about it. Possibly they'll suggest you put it towards 2015-16 ...
- Your account will be in credit, so your 2015/16 liability will be lower than usual.
- You can also ask them to switch you to 12 monthly payments so that you just pay every month, without risk of paying too often. If your payment record is reasonable they should be willing, particularly if you switch to paying by direct debit.
- Each year has a different account number, so although 14/15 is in credit it won't automatically be taken off 15/16.
If you do nothing, it will probably be refunded when they do the credit report after 01/04/15.
You can ask for it to be transferred to 15/16, but may not be possible until after 01/04/15, and your 15/16 bill will be issued early March.
You can ask for it to be refunded, where I work will take 2 to 3 weeks
elmer - Sorted, they're refunding it and have set up a dd to avoid it happening again. Was surprisingly painless, however it is the council so prob take a week for it to come back!
