Wireless doorbell problems

A question about : Wireless doorbell problems

This is the third time I've had a replacement from the same company, but the same problem always occurs. My last unit was a home protector door chime model 61564, this is supposed to be an updated version.

All work fine from any distance for a certain time, it might last hours or days before it fails. Once it fails it never reactivates.

interior dehumidifier

A question about : interior dehumidifier

tried a few of these, some in the house in the corners where it usually gets damp, and another in the car.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/151-INTERIOR.../dp/B000X1ERW8

absolutely useless in my opinion, the car still steams up and they don't collect hardly anything indoors. it appears the granule things are stuck together so maybe that's why, but they don't work.

a proper Ј99 dehumidifier from b and q collects loads of water when i use that instead.

Painting

A question about : Painting

Till now I have always wallpapered and as a result of all these TV programs about getting the most money for your house have decided to paint a room at the young age of 40 (cough)...... I have honestly never done it before.

So I don't have any skirting on at the moment as I am replacing it (no problem there then). I have done a lot of work on the walls to get them perfect.

What I would like to know is how best to cut in between the walls and ceiling. I don't mind spending out a little if there are tools that help....

Cleaning carpets

A question about : Cleaning carpets

Does anyone know the best way to clean carpets? We have just moved into a new house where there is carpet in EVERY room - there's even some on the floor of the shed! All the carpets really need cleaning and I want to buy a machine to clean them but I am confused. Which is better

a steam cleaner

a wet and dry cleaner

or a carpet cleaner?

I don't want to buy the wrong one and find that I have wasted my money. ???

best way to treat oak bannister and paint direct onto plaster?

A question about : best way to treat oak bannister and paint direct onto plaster?

Hi all.

I have 2 questions:

We have an oak banister which has had the varnish stripped away. The colour is muxh nicer now. I wondered what is best for sealing it. I've heard oil or varnish can be used. I want to try to preserve it's colour rather than making it any darker.

Saving money on brand name furniture

A question about : Saving money on brand name furniture

If you're thinking of spashing out cash on some expensive furniture, eg new leather sofa or dining room furniture it's worth bearing in mind that retailers have big mark ups on brand names like G-Plan, Parker Knoll, Hammel, Ercol etc.

I used to work for an independent furniture retailer which had a handful of stores. Staff prices were cost price+20%+VAT which was a great discount! The 20% was to cover the company's costs (storage, admin etc).
