A question about : Cheaper Aida? Or Alternatives?

I enjoy sewing, and this year thought I might buy some aida and try some cross-stitching for gifts (something I've not done since school!).

But I am horrified by the prices I'm finding - Ј20 per m??

I tend to think any fabric at more than Ј5 is too expensive for the likes of me...

Are there cheaper fabrics? Or am I looking in the wrong places?

A question about : Calling soap makers

I want to make some cold process soap, can anyone recommend a simple recipe to start with, ideally using the least amount of ingredients to keep the initial cost low, just in case I don't get on with it.

I have most of the equipment I have been gathering up from charity shops as I see suitable items. Just need a thermoter if anyone could recommend a good value starter one?

A question about : 14 Projects in 2014

Soulie, one of the regular posters on the crafting forum, started a popular thread called 13 Projects in 2013 where she encouraged us to set ourselves targets of craft projects to complete during the year. The suggested target was 13 but some people did more and others less. The important thing was the encouragement and motivation of posting achievements as well as the fun of seeing all the wonderful work people do.

I'm hoping somebody here can help me. My MIL is turning 65 next month & we have decided to make a gift for her somehow by collecting letters, notes and photographs from her friends and family containing their favourite or fondest memory of MIL. I want to collate all of these things together & think that the best way to do this may be in a large scrapbook.

A question about : Help with candle making needed!

Hi all,

I'm new to candle making, and just tried making my first teacup candles. Everything has gone to plan with my first 'pour', however when the wax has cooled it has obviously shrunk, and therefore has separated from the teacups, i.e. there is a very small gap between the edge of the wax and the teacup.

A question about : Bridal fabric

Hello everyone,

I managed to find a bargain designer wedding dress in a charity shop last week. It's a little bit tatty and the tulle is damaged but looks easy to remove.

I would love to find fabric like the one on this dress but I don't really know what it would be called or where to start. Would it be an embroidered tulle? Any idea how much it would be to buy? I'm not expecting it to be cheap but i'd only need the top layer in this fabric and it's cheaper than the Ј1900 dress I fell in love with in the shop!

A question about : Plastic jars wanted

I had an idea after seeing a jar filled with ephemera in TKMaxx. I thought it was a nice gift idea to use up my stash and gift my crafty friends all at once.

However finding plastic jars is proving impossible. The ones from TKMaxx looked exactly like a mason jar but were pretty flimsy plastic - which is fine as the jar doesnt really do anything except add to the vintage effect.

If I can find a good source I can even sell some in my etsy shop - anyone seen any ? They need to be about 15cm high
