WTC, CB and WMA query

A question about : WTC, CB and WMA query

i have been claiming the above benefits for the past few years.

the WTC (working tax credit) and CB (child benefit) and part of the WMA (widowed mother's allowance) all pertain to my son who has recently turned 18.
after he returned to college last year, he decided by oct to leave.
i was very much hoping he would change his mind and return to college, so didnt do anything about my benefits.
eventually when i had to renew my WTC claim this year, i declared that he had in fact left college last oct.

    P60 & CTC

    A question about : P60 & CTC

I have always used the highest figure on my husband's P60 when filling in CTC renewals. However, I'm not sure if this is the one that I should be using.

There are 2 amounts on there, the lower of the 2 says it is to be used on a tax return (as far as I can see the difference is his pension payments).

Hope someone can clarify for me, thanks x

        Slight improvement to Carer's Allowance.

A question about : Slight improvement to Carer's Allowance.

In the past I've tried to encourage people to Claim Carer's Allowance at the same time as the person they were caring for, claimed DLA. Although CA would not have been awarded until the DLA award was finalised doing this would enable full backdating of both CA and DLA, to take place should the DLA be awarded after appeal or reconsideration.

Now, providing the Carers claims CA within 3 months of a qualifying DLA award being made full backdating is permitted.

        BBC radio4 Moneybox 5th March

You can listen again to the programme which has a short item (mainly CAB spokeperson) Here

Putting this in a separate thread as I'm not sure how long BBC leave links onsite.

          thanks for the advice

A question about : thanks for the advice

just wanted to say thanks for this forum and the advice posted on it. i have been able to tell mum and dad benefits that they should have been claiming but didn't know they where entitled to and other benefits/concessions they will be able to claim as a result.

was also able to help an elderly neighbour who isn't claiming all the benefits she is entitled to.

          so thanks very much

Income support and HB/CTB; is this correct?

A question about : Income support and HB/CTB; is this correct?

I receive IS (lone parent) and HB/CTB and I'm starting part time work.

I've been told my earnings will not be counted for HB/CTB so long as I still receive some IS, which I will be.

Is that correct? I expected to have anything over Ј25 a week counted as income for HB/CTB...

ETA: I have just managed to get through on the phone (been trying all morning) and now know it is correct! That's me a happy bunny!

I'd delete the thread if I knew how...?
