A question about : O/S Daily Tuesday 24th February 2015

O/S Daily Tuesday 24th February 2015

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

Hi everyone

Penelope Penguin has been in touch this morning and suggested that it's time for Part 4 because part 3 has grown and grown, thanks to you all for your hard work! She will add links to this thread so that we can carry on seamlessly.

It's wonderful to think that we are now at the start of part 4! It's thanks to you all that this little idea, started just over two years ago, has become such a success!

Should I ask to take the rest of the wine bottle home?

A question about : Should I ask to take the rest of the wine bottle home?

We often go out to dinner and order a bottle of wine or two at the restaurant. Sometimes, especially if we've bought a second bottle, we don't finish it all. Is it OK to ask if we can take the rest of the bottle home?

Tinned Cherries

A question about : Tinned Cherries

Hi all,

Opened a tin of cherries last week for pancake day but only used some... Transferred the rest with the syrup into a container and put in the fridge.

Wanted to use them tonight for baking some brownies but just thought they might not be safe now after almost a week... Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Kevin

Thanks to Squeaky and all the wonderful thrifty old-stylers for all their work on this - it's inspiring. Do look at our Thrifty Ways charity book too.

Update July 2013: Sadly our wonderful board guide Squeaky who was the driving force behind this has passed away (see book of remembrance). This index has now been renamed in his memory.

I have lost my OS ways, help!

A question about : I have lost my OS ways, help!

Hello all,

I haven't posted for ages although I still lurk quite regularly. The problem is, since DH got a decent job with a commensurate salary I have become lazy. In the last couple of years I have been on a slippery slope with spending! Before, there was no question, I just had to save and scrimp, we had a mortgage and two children, then two teens.
