A question about : XBOX ONE or PS4

hey everyone... This christmas I am going to buy either an XBOX ONE or PS4...

Historically I am a Playstation fan but I am hearing great things about both consoles...

Any thoughts?

Best answers:

  • Unless there are console specific games or you have more friends with one particular console then I personally think that either console would be great, you certainly shouldn't be disappointed with either.
Personally I was a PS fan (for 1 & 2) but got converted when I got a 360, now I'd class myself as firmly in the Microsoft camp. The only reason I bought a PS3 was for GT5!
I don't buy into the whole console fan-boy thing, both have their strengths & weaknesses. The MSE answer is too go for the PS4 as it's definitely cheaper + seems to have the graphic advantage but the X1 has the Kinect included and IMO offers a better on-line experience. On paper it also offers the better multimedia experience so that could be a deciding factor as well.
Also I'm not a fan on the new PS controller (though I never liked the original - too light), the trackpad just seems an after thought.
The other point is size, the X1 is absolutely huge compared to the PS4 and it needs a seperate power brick whereas the PS4's is built-in.
  • Basically, PS4 is solely for gaming, Xbox is more of an entertainment centre.
I prefer PS4, because i only want to play games, rarely bother with motion sensor stuff and dont care about implementing TV onto my games console.
Also theres a large price difference, PS4 is Ј350, Xbox is Ј430.
Games actually look crisper and sharper on the PS4, as its slightly more powerful.
But yeah, also depends on your stance on Kinect, a lot of people think its a bit crap, some love it.
  • Look at the games that are out or due to come out (with definite release dates) on each console, check out reviews for these games and ask yourself do any of them take your fancy ?
  • also as a note, I would think you may struggle to procure either for Christmas
  • As I have a huge friend list on Xbox one plus all my gamscores on an xbox . for me it will be the Xbox but depends on friends really.
Plus titanfalls at the minute is only being released on xbox .
    But ps4 gets killzone.
So its really a choice of what u want rather then which is best.
  • There really isn't much actual difference between either system at this stage as the games look virtually identical on both. Decide on which exclusive games you think you would prefer. The xbox is dearer but it is designed to be more than just a console.
That said, you will probably really struggle to get either before Christmas as any stock coming in is likely to be straight back out the door.
  • Easy peasy.
    PS4.
    HBS x
  • ps4 any day of the week. Two people i know had xbox 1's that broke within two days of use.
  • Whether the increased graphical power of the ps4 will matter long term is unknown, however, it will never work against the playstation where it might work against the Xbox.
a lot of multimedia stuff isn't available on Xbox in the UK, whereas the PS4 has Netflix, iPlayer etc already (you might want to read more into this, check console reviews of British newspapers online).
Whether kinnect will matter too is debatable, but the extra Ј80 pricetag is almost enough to buy an extra game and controller, which is of more immediate benefit I believe
  • Ps4 is in no doubt a better and more powerful machine.
  • PS4. No question.
It's cheaper and considerably more powerful.

"Here it's abundantly clear that one platform has a distinct advantage over the other owing to the vast resolution differential: fine details, subtle edges and complex scenery all appear sharper and more defined on PlayStation 4, while these elements simply aren't displayed with the same level of clarity on Xbox One, giving the game a distinctly fuzzy look that doesn't really tally with our expectations of a next-gen experience."
Though from that, both consoles have framerate issues with most launch titles, but that's to be expected. Looks like many cross-platform PS4 games will be 1080p and XBone flavours only 720p.
(edit: despite saying that, I'm actually working on an XBox One title and it's looking beautiful - can't say much more as it hasn't been announced yet!)
  • I disagree with people saying the Xbone is an entertainment centre but the PS4 is not. That's simply untrue because they are BOTH entertainment centres. In fact the PS3 and 360 were too!
Both get catch up TV (4OD, BBCi, etc) both get Netflix and LoveFilm, both can store or stream music, you can watch DVDs on both, you can play CDs, you can play games (obvs), they both have web browsers, both have video chat, etc etc.
The biggest differences won't become apparent til later. Personally I would go for PS4 because he Playstation studios make better games in my opinion. You often hear of people buying a PS3 for a specific game even though they had an alternative console but it's rare to hear that about the Xbox (I have never actually heard of anyone doing that!).
  • A friend has bought the PS4 and found out that it will not play any downloaded movie unless the disc is present.
In other words - If you have downloaded anything at all from Pirate bay, or ripped DVD's etc - They will not work on the PS4. A bit like Cinevia on steroids.
Additionally, you can no longer stream things from your PC such as music and video.
Oh, and unbelievably there is no MP3 support and it cannot play music CD's.
It genuinely is just a gaming machine, unless your media is approved by/bought through Sony.
  • The thing I found with the ps4 is it doesn't have a "wow that's awesome moment" and In some ways it feels like a step back from the ps3.
The remote play from a vita is kinda nice, but well you need a vita
And the sharing is nice but I'd rather be playing than watching someone else play.
Oh and the controller is a lots better than the ps3 dual shock 3
I havnt got my hands on a xb1 yet so can't really comment
Personally forget about the consoles just buy the one with the exclusive games you want.
  • I own a ps4 and it has a few glitches. Eg, the camera sends voice chat when playing COD, and can't turn it off... But these are little bugs that can be fixed with the next patch.
It's worth noting that the ps4 has better graphics and you get a free game a month. Resogun is amazing.
Also, ps4 is winning the next gen race. For a reason?
