A question about : Wonga/Payday Express

I've two loans from these companies which are over Ј400 each. Payday Express, I have e-mailed, called and wrote to but they have ignored me. I defered the loan and paid Ј110....however, I am scared they have taken another Ј110 which they did last month with two payments of Ј80.

Wonga, the same and very unhelpful. I have basically been forced to pay Ј150 to get an extention. They told me to ring very early tommorow to agree a re-payment plan...that is impossible as with my bank they take the money at midnight with standing order/DDs.

This month was the month I was hoping to get my finances sorted especially as every other company agreed a payment plan. These two are becoming the bane in my side.

I have had to transfer most of money to the savings part of my bank account just to avoid a hit to it.

The thing is, I don't know when I am returning to work and this isn't helping my health due to an anxeity condition.

Any ideas what to do?

Best answers:

  • Ironic choice of thread title.
  • I've got nothing constructive to add, I agree with apples.
  • I just find it scary how anyone would want any financial product from a company called "Wonga".
  • I guess it's the financial services' equivalent of the Daily Star
  • OP have you tried their trade associations if your getting no joy? they will need to see your papertail and quite possibly you will have to write another letter as a 'formal complaint'
Wonga I've heard you should try high up the chain
Errol . Damelin @ wonga . com is the guy in charge
Payday Express - not sure of now and never had any emails (except generic ones) in my situation
Rest assured they treat everyone the same as frustrating as it is x
  • Payday express are useless. they will ignore everything.
Wonga are generally easy to deal with.
    email collections@wonga.com
ask for payment plan over x amount of months. i would also ask for banking details so you can pay by bank xfer.
you will need a new account, PDE will wipe your accoutn clean, as will wonga if you dont agree with them quick.
  • Thanks keepcalm and ihateyes
I've had my account decimated thanks to wonga and PDE, so luckily most of money that I have transffered to my savings account has remained unscathed.
Could the savings account online take over as the official account? My sister had something similar so could it call be transffered? On top of that, can I get the money back off the bank?
    I am with Lloyds TSB.
  • If your savings account is with the same bank that they are trying to take money from then your bank may pay the pdl companies and then offset funds from your savings account to clear the unauthorised overdraft. The bank are allowed to do this.
Ideally when people are struggling to pay payday loans and want to arrange a repayment plan, they need to move all their money to a new bank account (including savings) to stop the pdl companies getting to the funds and once they can't they tend to be more willing to discuss repayment plans.
You say can you get the money back off the bank - is that the extra payment that the pdl company has taken from you? if you owed the pdl company more than that amount and have given them you card/account details then the bank won't get involved. You'll have to take up the extra payment you don;t think should have been made with the pdl companies.
  • OP, there are 3 things that you need to do, in this order.
Don't take out anymore payday loans
Change your bank account to a totally new bank (away from banks you owe money too) ASAP
Seek debt advice to help you set up repayment plans or advise you on your other options.
  • The logic of taking out a Payday loan when you have some savings is completely ridiculous. Use the savings to pay down all or at least, part of the Payday loan.
  • It is hard to pay back PDL when you probably shouldn't have taken them out in the first place, but it can be done. If you can manage, pay the principle, then a bit over, I did this and have managed to pay off one of them, now the 2nd is almost gone too, it is a good feeling, but you do have to be very strict with yourself for months, and run on an almost impossible budget, but it can be done, good luck in sorting yourself out
