  • How much will it cost you? Whats your insurance excess? Or are you thinking future premiums?
When did the storm cause the inital damage? Did you claim for that right away or make it secure?
Must have been quite bad damage for the snow to cause all that damage, I presume they will ask what you did to prevent it.
  • excess is Ј100 and lots of content is damaged how much will it cost for ceilings isluation and a full wiring elctrics
  • In your policy booklet there will be a section on what yiu need to do to start a claim. It is very important you do not delay in starting to claim.
Whilst the insurance contract will detail what cover you have it will also have clauses restricting the insurers liability should you fail to take action to limit the loss.
If you cant find your policy a google search for the insurers name should direct you to the web site(s).You may have building and contents policies with the same or different companies. Your claim will be both for buildings damage and contents damage.
Insurers, by and large, have reasonable claims helplines but all expect you to take prompt action to help limit the overall size of the claim.
Regretfully, it is at the claim stage that you will learn how good your insurer really is.
  • If you have insurance and your covered then it will cost Ј100.
But it seems you may not have claimed yet? And may not have claim for the original storm damage?
But if they say you neglected to inform them and failed to prevent further damage then you may not be covered, If thats the case then it could cost thousands.
  • its with Lloyds tsb I have rang them but they will come and check if its wear and tear sates and ridge tiles were blown away my electricity is tripping contents have been damged such as tv hifi dvd player laptop clothing carpet floorboards insulation plaster etc
  • Still not answering the question though...
When did the storm damage occur?
When did the snow cause the damage?
When did you notify the insurance of the storm and then the snow?
  • it happened 3 weeks ago I notified them on the 30th Jan 2015. snow happened after a few days of the storm.
  • Were the winds "storm" force eg over 50 mph?
  • I don't know how do I check if they was?
  • They will also query why it took you so long to inform them of the storm damage.
Failing to report that quickly or make the property secure/prevent further damage could be an issue.
Any other properties in your street affected by the storm?
  • Make some noise with the claims department dealing with this, and at the same time put in a formal complaint to your insurer, which will get the clock ticking for an escalation to the FOS (if they ignore the complaint for 8 weeks or you are unhappy with their reply)
