A question about : Will I get ppi refund or will it be offset against what i owe the Halifax

Hi. Have just started claim for ppi refund with Halifax Plc and have four separate claims. 1st in on mortgage I had for 60,000 over 25 years but I repaid mortgage after 18 months. 2nd is a loan 5,000 loan taken out over 5 yrs at start ov mortgage but again paid after 18 mths. The 3rd is a loan for 8,900 taken over 5 yrs and only paid 8/9 mths ov payments. The 4th and 5th claims are for credit cards which I paid monthly payment on for 6-8 mths then didn't make anuva payment and they both had balance of around 1,000 to 1,500 outstanding. The mortgage and 1st loan started in around march 2005 and all others around 6 mths later. Have had no correspondence with Halifax regarding any outstanding accounts for at least 8 years and they person I spoke to re: claim ppi said that Halifax had tried to contact me last year and year before about ppi claim. Can u give me an idea about how much I'm likely to receive from all the claims and whether they can still offset against such old debts pls? X

Best answers:

  • If they didn't sell on the debt with no way to reclaim it then yes they can offset it. The 6 year rules on debt just stop it showing on your record and stops them being able to chase you doesn't cancel it.
See what happens if they defend the claim or accept and offset, no guarantee you were miss-sold
