A question about : Will ebay do anything to someone copying my pics and description?

Hi,
I just reported someone to ebay for blatantly copying two of my pics and my description from my 30 day BIN listing for use in their 3 day auction one.

Does anyone have any experience of this and does it get followed up that you know of? Don't know about imitation being the sincerest form of flattery in this case...he says that his fishing rucksack has a hole the size of a 5p on the front, whereas mine clearly doesn't...do you think it will affect my chance of a sale?

Best answers:

  • try a watermark programme on your pictures , slow em down then
all the motorcycle breakers put there business cards next to there goods , perhaps just watermarking with your user name would stop it .
regarding the text , think of it as flattery
  • They used to remove it quite quickly, there is still a report item option. You'll need the details of your original listing and picture, item number and date listed. If you're lucky it might get taken seriously, if not you'll have to brave live chat and ask there.
I had it in the past when I was wholesaling a fair bit on Ebay, some lazy idiots would copy my listings word for word (and the third party fonts/layout) as well as the pictures. As I was inevitably selling the items far cheaper I could never work out why they bothered. Some of it is easy to let go and others can make it look like you're using another account selling overpriced goods.
I'm always amazed how lazy people are with pictures, they are the most important part of the listing after the title. Your own picture of the item you are selling is the best option every time (media can probably be excepted), otherwise it looks like your hiding something.
