A question about : why have our star names changed? [Merged]

Just noticed that the titles under the username have changed, when did they changed?

Mine now reads Moneysaving Inhabitant (I've no time for the real world this site is my home), used to be something like completely over the top dont you have homes to go to?

Best answers:

  • I dont think mine has changed
  • OMG i'm soooo a geek!
  • lol think there must be more
    and there is also:
MoneySaving Inhabitant (I've no time for the real world this site is my home)
    MoneySaving SuperGeek
    MoneySaving Nerd
    MoneySaving Stalwart
  • How strange - it looks like some people have changed and some are still the same!
I've just spotted "Moneysaving Stalwart" (hope I've spelt that right??)
Edit: Ooh I think I get it now - it only changes when you next post )
  • I'm now a Money Saving Nerd
  • I remember that someone complained on the thread related to the Debt and mental health blog (on the main site) about us all being called mad, or lunatics and so on in our descriptions.
So perhaps this is why they've been changed.
So many of us across the boards have mentioned that their friends / neighbours / colleagues think that they are mad in their MoneySaving ways that it seems that most of the world think that we are mad!
I've never had a problem with it in fact, looking around at the new ones, I think that being called a nerd or a geek is even more insulting
Anyway - if you really want to know the best place to ask would be the This Site board, I reckon.
  • It's to do with this thread
Mental Health and Debt: New Guide to come
    GEEK?!
  • Well, I'm currently a Mad Money Saving Maniac so let's see what happens when I post this....
EDIT: I'm a Super Geek now
Still, reading above I see that I'm in good company
  • Moneysaving geek?? Nah I think mad fitted the bill better for me personally - certainly OH thinks I'm mad when I wash out freezer bags and sandwich bags and use them again!!
  • I got my third star yesterday and I was so chuffed - and now they've taken it away again!!!
  • From www.dictionary.com (avoiding wikipedia although that offers a similar explanation)
    Nerd
    - noun, slang
1.a stupid, irritating, ineffectual, or unattractive person. 2.an intelligent but single-minded person obsessed with a nonsocial hobby or pursuit: a computer nerd.
Who do we complain to about that?
I'd never considered the previous terms as a slight to anyone with mental health issues but I'm not sure if this is an improvement.
  • ooooooooooooh am I the same???
  • I do so have time for the real world!!! well when Im not busy here obviously
  • I wondered if there were any "good" words that could be used in place of "mad" so I just put "mad" into an on-line thesaurus...
    https://thesaurus.reference.com/browse/mad
There are plenty of alternatives for "mad" to choose from - the third set down being the best.
So why not just change the offending words and yet keep the fun sense of the originals?

  • testing what i have become as i don't post much. too much lurking
  • I'd like to complain on behalf of all geeks and nerds. Ridiculous. The names of geeks and nerds should not be used in this degrading manner. I'm off to write to my M.P. and cancel that nomination for Martin's OBE.
I'd like mine changed to moneysaving pixie please. We could have trolls, pixies, elfs, leprechauns and angels.
  • Mine has changed and i'm also missing a star
