A question about : Why have numerous relevant threads been moved to discussion time?

I am not a huge poster on here, but am lurking every day. I use the house prices thread to educate myself a little more on what is going on, firstly, with house prices and secondly, the economy in general. I read HPC too, but I do feel MSE, is a little more balanced, so stick here. Given the increase in numbers, I suspect others are the same.

I though the house prices board kept things pretty well contained. Yes, it has a tendency to go slightly off tangent, but 9/10, they are pretty relevant tangents.

Why have numerous threads about house prices, quantatative easing (which was fascinating btw) been moved to discussion time? Some have close to 100 civil replies, so why move it without an explanation?

Can we either get the threads back, rename this board house prices and the relevant economy (or something like that) or get an explanation from a mod as to why they were moved?

Yes, I am aware the mods do a good job, but this just seems a little too much to me.

Best answers:

  • I moved those threads over this morning, as most were not to do with house price's. This is the house prices board, not for talks on the general economy and until the name is changed board guides have to try and stick to the guidelines.
Yes, board guides have let some discussions off topic on here, but it was getting a bit much really.
If you want to ask about renaming the board you will have to ask one of the mse team.
This one is totally appropriate, but now in discussion time?
  • The Savings and Investment board used to be a good place to discuss economic problems, then it went all anal on chasing 0.1% improvements in interest rates.
MSE definite needs an a political economy sub-board; discussion time is more like 'Hello' magazine (or its northern edition 'Eh-up')
  • I think it would be a good idea if someone kicks off a poll for this to see what the majority posters think of divadee or whatever acts of lunacy.
  • so a thread about a car park full of new cars unsold is about house prices is it?
A thread about the honda team being up for sale is about house prices is it?
A thread about jeremy clarkson talking about car prices is about house prices is it?
A thread about recession in Germany is about house prices is it?
NO they are not, yes they are about the wider economy but they are not about HOUSE PRICES. Until the mse team change the guidelines and/or the name of this board to house prices and recession and the worlds wider economy I have to follow the guidelines.
  • diva, I understand what you are saying, but the board will be a shell of its former self and I for one will miss it.
Also there really is nowhere else to discuss the wider economy, as someone else said, the arms is more like, "The Suns" discussion time.
  • well with your method drbeat nearly 80% of the threads from the pure money section of the forum should be on the house price board. How about some posts from the grab it board, as that effects the economy as well doesnt it? People on mse rushing out to spend money when they see a bargain, oh that will help the economy as well.
  • well i have reffered this thread to abuse, and i recommend that everyone that has a problem with it do the same.
    the email address is
    abuse@moneysavingexpert.com
You are amissing the point here the guidelines are for discussions about house prices, when/if mse change the guidelines the posts will be moved back if the abuse and mse team agree. I dont know why you cant carry on your discussions in the discussion board.
I will no longer reply to any messages on here, I have given the board guides stance on this. Board Guides just follow guidelines nothing else.
  • diva, I know you have a very hard job on here and maybe because it has been described as "the board the mods forgot" we have got a little used to freedom.
But I think a little bit of leeway would be a good thing.
  • I thought we'd been put in the 'naughty corner' and left to our own devices, which suited me fine. There is no indication that the board has been unpopular; rather the reverse, in fact.
  • I said i wouldnt reply but to break that to answer incisor i will.
I put the abuse email address as that is who to go to if you have a problem with anyones actions on here (board guides included), I have already emailed abuse myself to show them this thread and to clarify what I have to done and why. If abuse and the mse team want to change the fornat of this board to house prices and the wider economy then bring it on, and the threads will be moved back .
The poll is already up fair enough thats the posters perogative, I have also emailed abuse with the link to it so they can see it.
As for your comment I am here to serve and not rule, that is what i am doing the mse team, give us guidelines and that is what i am following, when they change the guidelines I will change the way threads are moved on this thread.
