A question about : Where can i sell my VHS tapes / cassettes ?

Basically i've got loadsa video tapes and cassettes at home and i was wondering if i could get rid of them for money rather than just throw them out. Does anyone know where i could sell them. Hopefully looking for 20+ per item.

Thanks in advance

Best answers:

  • What do you mean 20+ per item?
Few people want either now you will be lucky to get anything unless its very rare
  • Car-boot sale
  • Check Amazon if you have any obscure VHS tapes where the programmes were never released on DVD, I have sold a couple in the past year for over Ј10. If they are basically just popular movies you might as well freecycle them or dump them not even charity shops want them anymore.
The same applies to casettes, the odd ones can still be worth money on Amazon, maybe only a fe wpence, but the rest will be difficult to shift anywhere.
  • The going rate at the last car boot I went to was 10 for a pound.
  • I read somewhere on here but i lost the link that theres firm which buy in bulk old vhs tapes. Does anyone know that website?
  • Be interesting to see if anyone can come up with ideas, but I doubt it somehow.
I took a load to a car boot sale, box sets, childrens and music and had them at 10 for Ј1.00 and never sold any.
  • Tried in a car boot late Spring no one was interested
  • it does depend on the film.
amazon will give you an idea ie if you see 200 sellers at 1p then give them to your local charity shop. if they are foreign language films or sport you may be able to sell them for a pound or more.
  • What like porn
  • Hi, i recently had the same trouble i had loads of old VHS tapes...managed to sell them for 20p each at a car boot, not much i know, but if you look on Ebay...they aren't much cheaper....otherwise charity shop??
  • Yes true one feature
Whilst DVD has extras content, chapters and most of all superior quality compared with video which degrade every time you play them
  • yeah, me and my fam ussually sell at a carboot once or twice a year. 3 years in 2005-2008 of selling not one vhs at 20p each on a carboot sale we gave up.
  • Can they be transferred to Dvd ?
Same with old records, what do i need to put them on a CD
  • We have lots of childrens VHS tapes, and my mums just upgraded to dvd, so she gave me all hers too, tried to freecycle them 3 times and no one wanted them! Took them to two charity shops and both didnt want them as they cant shift their current stock!
Guess everyone has moved on to dvds now.
Goggled recycling vhs, and they are quite labour-intensive as they have to be opened up and dismantled by hand, and as the value of recycled plastic has reduced, no body wants to do it!
Found out that someone has knitted a bag out of the tape, but as it has some kind of metal coating on the tape surface, it would probably rust!
I have two carrier bags in my garage, cant give 'em away!
  • Stuck mine on freecycle and they got snapped up.
