A question about : When should I chase an application?

I applied for the M&S credit card via the MSE site for an additional offer and was told they hope to get back to me within 48 hours but as they are seeing increasing applications it could be between 2-5 days. This was 12 days ago, at what point is it reasonable to chase an application or try to get an update on it's status?

Just for information in case it would affect things, this is the first time I've applied for a credit card, basic earnings are 20k PA and my credit history is literally spotless (although sparse in terms of actual credit instead of contracts for phones etc)

Best answers:

  • If it was me I would call them and see what is happening did you receive any emails from them maybe?
  • Just the initial confirmation that it was passed on to the underwriters and would take less than 48 hours ideally but up to 5 working days. Will give them a call later then, just curious whether this sort of delay was normal as I'd never applied for a credit card before.
  • Its a very long wait just to find out if your accepted or not. Do give them a call.
  • Im in the same boat, im guessing they are working through the backlog of applications
