Best answers:

  • ooooh, love italian food.
We usually go to La Serie A in Perth for pasta. Also love Paco's for food with friends.
For a treat though, afternoon tea at Dunkeld House is excellent, and you don't even have to be over 60! Not very money saving though at Ј11 per person.
  • Chez Jules Chester 2courses and a bottle of wine £15 each
  • Afternoon tea at Gleneagles, again not cheap but a real treat
Crusoe Hotel in Lower Largo for fish and chips and a walk along the beach.
  • mcdonalds, kirkcaldy high street LOL!
  • Peat Inn is a bit out of the way but worth the detour!

The Cellar in Anstruther is very good too.
  • We find the Peat Inn to be a wee bit over-rated and much prefer Ostler's Close in Cupar. We've been going for almost 25 years and have yet to be disappointed.
Other favourites: 'The Greenhouse' in Falkland (mid-priced), 'Luigano's' at the Covenanter's in Falkland (Italian/pizza, Fife's only wood-burning pizza oven I believe) and 'The Coachman's' at the Old Manor in London Links (inexpensive).
  • Craws Nest, Anstruther

Hadn't been there for a long time, had a superb lunch there last week. Although it is mainly aimed at fish and seafood, which is the speciality of the area, had a superb pesto and sun dried tomato pasta with parmesan shavings, there were several other veggie options on the menu. For fish lovers, the fish dishes looked wonderful and apparently tasted as good as they looked.
Taychreggan Hotel, Ellislea Road, West Ferry, Dundee
Beautifully cooked and well presented food - sorry couldn't find a website. Advised to book, even for lunch. Has a varied and extensive menu and caters for all. Had lovely lunch/dinner there - be prepared, the main course servings are very generous! If they have it on the menu, can strongly recommend the woodland mushroom and truffle oil risotto, also the mushroom and cream penne and..........
Paco's in Perth is great for lunch with the kids, or at night times with friends - does a great variety of food, so bound to be something for even the fussiest of eaters.
Glad to hear that the Cellar in Anstruther is still good, not been there for ages, but passed by just after having lunch at the Craws Nest - so will bear that in mind for next time.
  • Mine are the Ballathie House hotel quite expensive but excellent scottish food and sometimes they have special prices for set 3 course menus https://www.ballathiehousehotel.com/restaurant.htm
and I really recommend the following farm https://www.gloagburnfarmshop.co.uk/cafe.htm
which is just 5 minutes from Perth. It's in a lovely location , the food is great and the prices are quite low. They really have great cakes and a lovely organic shop. They have an outside eating area as well
  • Hiya,
You cant beat the meals served in Deacon Brodies a pub on Ward Road in Dundee. Great choices, decent sized portions and very reasonable prices too. Most of the lawyers from our court round the corner use it so it must be good.
OH and dont forget no matter what salad if you order one at all you get an egg in it and the coleslaw is yummy!
Ps middleman have a *wave* from another Dundonian and can others please say where they are from just out of curiosity. Ok i confess noseyness but curiosity sounds much better.
Oh and the chippy at the Arbroath port does amazing fish and chips - the size of the seaguls round the area are proof of this. Huge portions, but delicious and well worth the travel to get it now and again or if your in the area.
  • .........................
  • My house.
The menu will be created from a vast inernational larder of recipes gleaned from the people of whichever country appleis rather than commercial cookbooks and whether it's myself or one of my children or their partners (or a combination thereof,) doing the cooking, it will be interesting, pefectly cooked, tasty, naturally farmed organic and the company is the best I've ever experienced.
Friends tend to drop in at meal times as there's always an extra tattie in the pot at oor hoose.
Must admit, though, that re-reading what I've just written tells me why there never seems to be enough room in my diningroom: could be my head size not forgetting my trumpet, which I've just blown hard regarding my culinary skills along with those of my kids and their partners.
    LOL!
Just laugh at me. I don't mind. Not many skills to boast of so making the most of the above.
  • The restaurant at Jamesfield. Shop's great too. :-)
  • Was going to add to eating in Tayside thread, but wondered if it might get missed, and need ideas for lunch for this Monday coming.
Taking friend out for birthday lunch, don't want to drive too far - there is a time factor involved. She lives up the back of beyond, sort of between Arbroath & Forfar. (Don't ever ask me for directions, my navigational skills are dreadful! :rolleyes
Don't want to go into central Dundee - want to park outside wherever we are eating. Somewhere between outskirts of Dundee/Arbroath would be fine - and I don't know where to go in Forfar - used to manage to get to the ice rink and back, but don't even think that is there anymore from what I've been told!
Took her to Roos Leap, Montrose last time, and so want to go somewhere else. Thought of my recommendation on Tayside thread (Taychreggan), but been there quite a few times myself lately, and fancy trying somewhere else.
Toying with the Birkie Inn (Birkhill Inn), but not been there for ages, and it does get really busy. Any thoughts or suggestions. Doesn't have to be posh, in fact nice but not posh would be good, so long as the food is good.
  • The Kittiwake in Broughty Ferry does really good food and if it's a nice day you can eat in the gardens. The Old Brew House in Arbroath is nice not been for ages but food was always good, it's down by the harbour. hth
