A question about : Whats the UK average kWh usage per year

Does anyone know there kWh usage per year and what a typical average is, this is just for a house with electricity and no gas.

Best answers:

  • I would like to know this too.. i want to compare what we use to others...
  • There is a
    *edit whoops why didnt my comments come out?*
  • https://www.carbonindependent.org/sou...ome_energy.htm says 4800 kWh of electricity and 16000 kWh of gas for an average household. It has other figures for households that are larger and smaller than average.
  • There is an industry Profile Class Average. This is a researched avereage based on research of consumption on a number of premises (usually 3000) in each profile class two years ago. This is done via recording consumption over the year, then interpreting and averaging all the data to provide an average for each profile class. (This takes a year)
    https://www.elexon.co.uk/marketdata/m...0Average%20EAC
    You need to find out your GSP ID (Region) Profile Class & Standard Settlement Configuration. These can be found on your invoices usually.
  • Gas 20500 Kwh
    Electricity 3300 Kwh
    Hope this helps
  • You'll have a lot of fun digging the information out of Elexon's site.
    I've done it for:
    Profile Class 1 (domestic unrestricted) the annual average is 4079kWh;
    Profile Class 2a (Economy 7 base) 4768kWh/year [includes some night rate kWh];
    Profile Class 2b (Economy 7 switched) 1645kWh/year
    This is consistent with Cowbutt's statistic of 4800kWh/year because his average household use is a weighted average of PC1 and PC2.
  • www.imeasure.org is a university run site that compares usage for different house types and family size, it tells you your weekly/monthly carbon emissions, spend on gas and elec, if you enter meter readings weekly. No cost just register.
  • I'd guess about 15000-16000kWh.
  • my usage for past year with storage heaters as I dont have gas supply here is
    Day---2348
    Night--12458
    I have all energy saving bulbs,Double glazing,cavity wall insulation,roof insulation and also exterior cladding and still find it hard to keep L/Room at 70f
    Its a 2 bed mid terrace and one problem is neighbours either side dont heat their houses as they cant afford to smoke and go too pub then
  • Mine is pretty much like chas1937
    my usage for year with storage heaters and no gas supply is
    Day - 1345
    night - 10206
    There are two adults and no children, We have electric cooker, chest freezer, electric shower, (we do not store hot water) energy saving bulbs, some double glazing, thick stone walls, two bedrooms (in old single storey cottage)
    we are very carefull with the electric usage and read the meter every week. We do not have any other form of heating other than the storage heaters and our house is certainly not very warm, but warm enough for us. We tend to keep ourselves warm, rather than the house.
  • my annual consumtion in kwh for a 5apt 4 bed 3 storey house is 16,000 for gas and 9,000 for electricity. gas central heating, electric cooking, elecvtric shower, new build house, with loft insulation, draft proofing etc. But there is 5 of us living here! my annual bills are Ј950 for electricity and Ј550 for gas, i am with edf energy online v4 tariff and i have not found anyone cheaper than them in the past 2 years!
  • You should know that EDF online version 6 (effective 18th December) is cheaper than versions 1,2,3 & 4. Version 5 was even cheaper but sadly nolonger available.
    Believe it or not none of the comparision website will tell you this, unless you tell them you are a none EDF customer, in which case version 6 comes top of the list.
  • 'Average' consumption is basically a load of !!!! and bull...unless you surveyed EVERY hosue in the UK and then did the maths. I live in a 4 bed extended semi with 5 occupants (I seem to have 'acquired' a daughter I never had, my eldest son's girlfriend who clearly much prefers living here than she does her 'home', lol) and we use 15,000 gas and 6000 leccy. So, it could be said we are not using enough gas but using far too much leccy. Oh well..
