A question about : What's a reasonable time to fix a broadband fault?

I'm having issues with my broadband and BT can't send an engineer for 19days. Is this reasonable?

I read that Ofcom are planning to introduce targets for them of fixing 70% of broadband faults within 2days but this doesn't seem to be in force yet.

Thanks

  • Impossible to say on the scant info provided.
If I book an OR BB specialist engineer it's usually for a couple of days time but the length of time you have been quoted implies there's more to it than a simple fault and it has gone to what OR call second stage in which case they may (for example) need to dig to resolve the fault and get council permission to do so first.
(It's not BT engineers it's OpenReach engineers btw)
  • Fix a fault as you get some form of connection. But a fast, stable and reliable one maybe a different matter.
Fixing some faults within 2 days maybe impossible. They may have to dig up gardens, pathways or roads for some repairs.
  • Do we know what the fault is? is your phone line on poles or underground?
  • Last fault I had turned out to be a main cable needing replacing - took about 3 weeks as it involved digging up roads etc, which presumably needs council/highways permission. For more local faults, then I've normally had an appointment within 2-3 days
