A question about : What is the point of this!!

What in the world is the point in splitting up the travel board even more. As if it's not fragmented enough we get this tinkering for the sake of it. We all know most people will pay absolutly no notice of this what so ever. BTW.,Shall I buy my dollars now or will it go up by the time I go on holiday:confused:

Best answers:

  • Completely agree. I posted on Andrea's thread about the changes, but didn't get a reply (surprise  ).
  • Me again ...
If the board is going to be split like this, at least half the stickies need moving over. Also most of the threads currently on the first page of the main board need to be moved.
Who thought up this great move?
  • I've just come to the site and cant see the point in splitting things - surely the main board is all about planning holidays so what goes in there now???
  • Totally agree with all of the above. Many pleas were made for a sub-board for all the budget airlines threads clogging up the board and yet this (repeated) request was ignored.
  • It's quite important that MSE listens to the comments above which between them probably represent about 75% of the useful and pertinent responses that people get on this particular board.
Tinkering for the sake of tinkering doesn't work. I have absolutely no understanding of how this board split has been worked out. Or why? And that will go for most people trying to post. It'll be a hell of a job to moderate.
Please reconsider, it's no shame to revert to the previous format, but this split is, in all honesty, a quite terrible decision that will negatively impact on the board.
MSE has successfully driven a big chunk of regulars off this board in the past by refusing to listen, more power to you if that is your aim, but surely this is now just self defeating?
  • I concur with all the above - daft idea !
  • I generally prefer less boards rather than more.
Yet we've received a raft of notes about the travel board being too crowded full of "I wanna" rather than actually sharing MoneySaving tips. Therefore we're trialling having an iteneries board so that the two have space.

  • Ok, but I agree with what has been said elsewhere about this - that most of what appears on the travel board therefore ought to be on this sub-board instead.
  • Why not just as mentioned above a sub board for low(ish) cost airlines, that is the one single thing that clogs the board up.
  • I agree with most of the above posters. The way this sub board is split, only serves to confuse, not clarify things. If the travel board were to be split it would make more sense to split it along the lines of package holidays, low cost airlines, hotels etc.
  • yes, I think that the 'I wanna' board should be the sub-section as the planning aspect is the major factor really.
I think that there should be a clear and concise 'sticky' helping people to use the serch function correctly. I always try searching before posting but I find it really tricky to utilise properly. Also it doesn't help that in our wonderful English language we have so many different words for certain things that the answer you're after could have been covered before but you've used different terminology to someone else. I'm hoping that sometime in the future I'll be able to go to New York but part of me is dreading have to wade through the New York thread!

  • I think the main problem is that its not really clear what the difference between the two sections of the board are - surely pretty much everything is down to planning a holiday?
  • Agree with all of the above.
Yes, the Travel board could do with more organisation; but IMHO the new split isn't clear enough. There is no definate line that means one post should be on one board rather than the other.
Looking over the two boards, there are very similar posts on both boards, and there are threads that could easily be swapped between the two; going on what has already been moved
Not sure what is the best way forward but as others point out, a budget airlines board, or even just an airlines board may work better, as they seem to be questions that are asked a lot and add clutter.
  • Me also not understand what go here, what go there!
  • Completely agree with most.
This board is completely pointless and just makes it more hassle for all users.
What gets me though is that for ages us regulars have been asking for stickies of certain threads, ones whereby the questions are asked repeatedly and this gets completely ignored by the Mods on here.
No one asks for yet another split travel thread and it gets actioned???
I would love to know why when common sense is screaming at stickies or even a thread of 'commonly asked questions' it is ignored. Yet this actioned???
