A question about : Wescot "Debt" Help

Hello I have an issue that has been going on for over a year now.

I had a bank account with Santader and it was almost never used by me if ever as I was not in the country(studying) for until 2012(August). Now Since I returned I had a letter(around August 2012) from some debt agency claiming I owed around Ј250~ to Santander which I knew nothing about as I had not been in the country so I asked them for proof of transications and what not and they never replied.

Fast forward to around March 2013 and I started recievieng letters from wescot claiming I owe Ј482.06, firstly it strikes me odd that two debt companies have such different numbers but you know. I have asked them for proof twice now! and they never send it and keep sending me letters telling me final notice and that I need to pay, they keep ringing my house and mobile phone bugging me about it when all I want is proof.

I feel I made a mistake talking to them in the first place but I had not been in the country until August last year and see no way that they could of been a debt, I only returned in the 3~ years I was away for Christmas and barley remember ever using that card as I usually just had cash on me.

I am also young (21) and do not currently have a job nor own any possessions (car, house) and I am continuing my studies in the UK so is there anything I should do from here?

Should I ignore them from now on or what? I have already made contact and I have asked for proof but they never send any and just send me threatening letters.

Any help appreciated, thank you.

  • Hi
How have you made contact and how have you asked for proof? by phone or in writing?
If you haven't written to them then I would send the prove it letter - Letter when you know nothing about about the debt - AKA "Prove it" letter
  • Hey, I have only contacted them Via phone so far,
Have called them only once where as they have called me a dozen or so times.
Have asked for proof over the phone and then I reiceve a letter telling me about the phone call about a week later and that the case is currently on hold.
Than a letter comes saying I need to pay when I don't even get Proof
Also how can the sums be so different between the two debt collectors and I don't see how It could ever be 480Ј.
I had an overdraft once on this account many years ago and that was paid off for Ј35~ and I even have the number for that certain issue on my PC but have not told them about it.
  • Send the prove it letter.
If they send proof (which should also explain the alleged balance) then you can decide at that point how to tackle it - or come back on here for advice at that point.
Advisable not to speak to them on the phone. If they have your number and call you then just say you won't discuss anything by phone and have sent them a letter.
  • Ok, if they keep sending me threats after prove it letter should I completly ignore them?
I heard people ignore them sometimes and as they are wanting Ј480~ from me they would leave it after a while.
is this true? Also would they send someone to the house for this much?
I am just very worried about all this stuff and confused at the same time, not liking there threatening letters
