A question about : Wedding Invitations

Myself and the lucky fella are getting married next June and are going through the motions of organising this beast!

We have been shocked at the cost of wedding invitations and other stationery (namely Save the Date cards)!

Can anyone help us out with some tips or ideas about reasonably priced suppliers?

Your help will be greatly received!

• I got married last year and organised our wedding over a 3 month period.
  I went to a paper/ card shop (sorry I can't remember the name but they are a big supplier) and just brought A5 size cream cards (folded in half they are the perfect size), envelopes which sold for 10p each, a few packs of textured card for part of the design, and sheets of coloured paper. Plus several sheets of stickers which say 'wedding invitation' can be brought in gold or silver. All in all it came to under Ј20 (making 100 wedding invitations), I also brought a few bits and bobs of paper though (not for wedding). To buy hand made cards would set you back around Ј70-100 I think. Inside the card I had typed up the wording myself and printed it off on normal white A4 paper (which would do two invitations), stuck that on with glue inside of the fold.
  You get wording samples form wedding websites, also alot of wedding websites also offer to send out free samples (good for ideas).

  I bought handmade cards and then realised i could have just made them myself.
  I then made my own order of services, place names and thank you cards ( with a little help from some friends)

  I got a sample from them for save the date coasters and luggage type tags - they are great and such a good idea, the luggage labels you could really easily (and inexpensively) do yourself. They fit in most size envelopes and you'd only need to stick a label on them (free samples from avery )
  Also when they send you the catalogue you'll get a leaflet from the post office with an offer for personalised stamps which are cheaper the more you buy so if you will be sending out lots and lots of save the date and invites and then thankyou's it might be worth investing in some personalised stamps cos they look really funky
• We're getting married in September and have just sent out our home-made invitations and reply cards. We're now working on the Thank You cards and Orders of Service. I think the cards with different layers of card and little rose buds and things are lovely, but we’re so UN-arty that wasn’t even an option! :
  So we’ve kept to a very simple design, A5 (so we could print one invitation and one reply card on each piece of A4), with a nice font in green ink, with a plain border of two thin lines also in green, all printed on the home PC, using Word and Excel and “mail merge,” on ivory card.
  We bought enough card, paper and envelopes to do about 70 invitations, reply cards Thank You cards and Orders of Service as well as being able to include a ready addressed envelope to return the reply cards from the stationery suppliers we use at work, using the work’s account. Work were more than happy to help us out with this and it’s all come to only about Ј25.
