A question about : Vodafone Dongle rip off

I bought a Vodafone dongle for Ј25, and was told in the shop that it would be Ј10 a month for 2GB data. When the Ј10 ran out or the 2GB ran out, the internet would stop. This was perfect for me as on extremely low income due to disability. The dongle is suspended after one week, go into Vodafone, they say I have used 8GB of data and will be receiving a bill for Ј165! Vodafone said I should have checked data usage, my argument is, that I have signed a contract for just Ј10 a month, and as t it would run out after the Ј10 usage there was no need to check the data usage. Especially as I had bee assured on my request that it could not run over the agreed limit. Went into Vodafone to complain, and was told by a very argumentative person that I was told it would run on. This is a blatant lie, because if this was the case I would have walked away. Returned to Vodafone again, spoke to manager, he said I had been put on the wrong tariff but could do nothing about the bill - surprise surprise! I have sine contacted the Ombudsman about this as it is causing me a lot of unnecessary stress. She has said after weeks of conversations that I need proof that she had told me this. What about proof that she didn't say this in the shop. That makes me a liar with no way to prove otherwise. Do we have to start tape recording these stealth business deals? I see on the forums pages and pages of complaints about this very subject. If the Ombudsman cannot help me then I will still REFUSE to pay it. I have since been hassled by the DRS debt recovery people who have added their Ј100 worth of cream to the top of the Vodafone cake, well they will have a long wait. What about the little people??? I would like to hear from a Vodafone specialist about this as seen on here sometimes...

  • Unless it was a PayGo dongle, its likely that you could exceed your data allowance. Similar to a contract phone that may offer 300 free texts and 200 minutes calltime, the phone would not just cease once you reached your limit.
Unlike a pay as you go, which will simply tell you there are insufficient funds to continue.
OP, you may want to remove your email address on a public forum, before the MSE team remove your post.
