A question about : Vodafone 4 year contract

When I last upgraded my phone with Vodafone (back in October 2012) they have put me on a 4 year contract due to end Oct 2016. I realise that I should have raised this with at the time, and told them to reduce it, but it still seems a totally unreasonable length to create a contract for.

Further, I can see that Ofcom/the EU have now banned phone contracts that are longer than 2 years, so I'm wondering if I can get out of the contract early...

Anyone got a similar case or advice?

Thanks,

Pete

Best answers:

  • Are you on a consumer or a business contract?
I ask because it is incredibly unusual for there to be a four year consumer contract.
  • It's a consumer contract :-)
  • What are you paying ???
  • The contract is for Ј37 for unlimted texts and minutes with 1GB of data.
  • Contracts longer than 2 years had been banned before 2012.
If it was an early upgrade the remainder of the old contract could have been added to 2 years, but no way can it be 4 years in total.
  • Have you actually spoken to them to get their reasoning behind the 4 years? As said by the above posters, contracts over 2 years have been banned for a while.
  • only orange ever offered 3 year, never seen a 4 year on voda
  • Must be a sold gold handset for them to be charging you an incredible Ј1,776 over the minimum term...
  • Thanks to everyone for the comments.

  • Are you sure its 4 years? Im pretty sure its impossible and also illegal for Vodafone to do this

  • phone them up doesnt sound right
  • First post 5 days ago and the OP still hasn't called VF and got it sorted??...
  • 2 year contract begun Oct-12 then renewed in Oct-14 perhaps?
  • I'm wondering if what happened back in October 2012 was that the OP was contacted by one of the third party Vodafone partners and upgraded through them.
There have been a few posts on here from people who thought they were getting a good deal but had actually been transferred to a business contract.
In that case, there are business contracts that (if you don't cancel within a specific time period) will renew your contract automatically for a new minimum term.
  • I'd bet this is one of Vodafone's premium partners offering a business contract via an unsolicited phone call.
