A question about : Virgin Media Retention thread

New thread started as a follow on from the very successful thread started by swebb some 3 years ago where users have renegotiated a good deal with Virgin by phoning retentions.

I've moved a few relevant posts from the old thread to start it off.

  • Taken fron the Virgin Media Website:-
Call 150 from your Virgin Media Phone. It's absolutely free.
Or call 0845 454 1111 from any other phone line.
  • I have had the NTL / Virgin 3 for Ј30 for approximately 13 months. The Virgin TV has been pretty dire and I requested it be removed. I naively thought this would redeuce my bill to 2 for Ј20 instead I wasw told either the offer stood for 12 months or, if the digibox was removed my price would be Ј29 a saving of a pound! The 2 meg broadband has been great for my needs so I decided after my 12 month contract was up to have the TV and Telephone service out and just pay Ј18 for my Virgin broadband. Imagine my surprise when I rang Virgin to request the removal of the two services I was offered Broadband AND phone for a permanent price of Ј16.50 (twelve month contract) and if I wanted to keep the digibox (I dont) Ј22 for all three. So now I have broadband and phone for Ј3.50 less than I was paying for broadband alone.

I phoned the 0800 retentions number and told them I was thinking of moving to another provider as my 12 months at Ј10.00 per month for Size M Broadband was just around the corner. I was told they could give me a deal for Ј11.00 per month for another 6 months. They then mentioned that if I signed up to e-billing via their website, it would be reduced by a further euro, so I'm on essentially the same deal for another 6 months which seems okay.
  • Hey everyone, I was wondering if anyone could help me
I am on the Ј21 a month deal with Virgin Media, this gives me
Medium Broadband-Think it is 2 mb
    Talk Unlimited-Free UK calls anytime
    Tv Size-Medium
My contract is coming to an end soon and I was wondering if anyone is in the same situation and any offers that have been floating about.
I did phone up, and they offered to knock Ј1.50 of the bill every month, but I am sure there are better deals than this. Thanks,
    James
  • I need to make some essential credit crunch cutbacks, does anyone know if Virgin Media will allow me to have just 2 meg broadband on its own and how much will they charge per month?
  • Hi all
I am with Virgin - formerly an NTL customer & always think our bills are really high. They are usually Ј130-Ј140 per month & this includes:
    line rental: Ј11
    additional line: Ј11
talk international: Ј1.50 (thought I cancelled this AGES ago)
    TV XL: Ј22
    Sports: Ј18
    Broadband: L Ј25
Service charges are Ј103.45, approx Ј35 for calls.......
Don't want to get rid of the sports - but would we be better off on SKY?? We used to have them before cable came along but our bills seem to have gone really expensive. Any help gratefully received,
  • hi all
need to cutback on my bills, and thought virgin would be the first one to try and save money on, i have t.v size xl Ј20.50......sports package Ј18.00......broadband size m Ј18.00 are these prices reasonable or could i get them cheaper if i phone virgin.
    regards
    rams
  • People asking "can I save money on my VM" or "I think i'm paying too much"... you need to ring up VM, tell them you are thinking of leaving because your bill is too much and see what they offer... you'll be surprised how easy it can be....
Before calling have an idea of what else is available out there... that means equivalent packages with Sky for example, or how much new VM customers get packages for....
@ rams, not sure about the rest but size m broadband is way too expensive... I pay £10 a month as an exisitng cutsomer... I think new customers get a better deal but £10 a month is minimum you should aim for.

  • I phoned a few months ago and was told no offers were available and because I am BB only, they can not offer me anything again in the future.
Just phoned, got Ј8 off my XL a month for the next 6 months.
    Just keep trying...
  • I am with virgin media and have the
    broadband small
    telephone XL
    television Family Pack
my bill averages about Ј28.00 per month after discounts.
    But my mother is on
    telephone XL
    television Family Pack
but her bill is about Ј37.00 after discounts per month. I dont understand they say that is all she can have but I can't understand when I have a extra package.
Any help to get my mum more of a discount would be grateful I have tried everything I can think off.
  • If shes outside of her contractual 12 months she can get a deal, if she isn't then the only time they'll barter is when her contract is up
  • TV comes as either M, L or XL now, unless you are on an old package.
As you mention 'Family Pack' then you must both be well out of a 12 month contract.
You can get broadband L, TV XL and phone L for £35 paying DD and eBill. Around £41 for broadband L, TV XL and phone XL again DD and eBill but only if you phone up and go through to cancellations and tell them that you can get Sky TV 6 mixes, phone line and evening and weekend calls (or 24/7) calls for around the above price, they should then price match Sky. You could always add on a V+ box see what deal they could do on an install.
They may have some other deals, but you must go through to cancellations, the usual CS don't usually offer as good a deal, though if there's a new customer deal you like the look of when you get through to cancellations tell them you aren't happy they you can't get that same deal.
  • VM will be getting a call from me this morning
Current deal I had which I negotiated in January was suppose to last a minimum of 12 months. It was:
    XL TV Package
    XL Broadband
    Telephone
    V+ Box
    2nd Standard box
I was paying Ј41 per month in service charges.
This months statement is missing one of the usual discounts of '3 for Ј30 Bundle Saving -Ј11.50'
Not only that, theres an additional charge for services 24 June to 23 July of Ј11.50.
It looks like they're claiming back the 3 for Ј30 discount I had on last months bill.
Total services bill this month is Ј64 compared to my usual Ј41.
Just priced up identical package with Sky including line rental and they work out at Ј41 per month. Sky is also free evenings and weekends and their TV has Sky One and Sky News + many others.
I know Virgin will claim that the Sky+ box isn't HD, whereas their V+ box is, but since theres still only BBC HD on V+, I wouldn't be missing much.
    Retentions, here I come...
