A question about : Virgin .... Help!!

Hi people

If anyone could help here that would be great.

My girlfriend used to pay the virgin (tv, phone and broadband) at her mothers house as part of her lodge. Back in October she moved up to Aberdeen with myself to an apartment where no virgin is available.

When she went to cancell she was told that if she recommended her mother (notice recommended) she would not have to pay the cancellation fee. Any it turns out her mum could get a better deal with sky so went for that over the virgin.

Virgin have sent a couple of letters and my girlfriend has cancelled the direct debit and argued till she is blue in the face how virgin said they would cancell if she recommended, and they won't listen back to the recorded calls.

She has had another letter now (from virgin, all letter headed and envelope) stating if she doesn't pay within 14 days of the letter they will go further.

There is no date on the letter therefore 14 days from when? Also she has phoned up again regarding it and virgin are denying that the letter is from then and that it is from a debt collecting agency, which is definatly not the case. So even if she was wanting to pay she can't because virgin are saying nothing to do with them anymore....

Are they trying to pull a fast one as they are saying the debt agency have sent several letters and we haven't had one....

She still wants to refuse to pay but she is worried now what will happen.

Can any one please advise this would be great help!

Thanks in advance

Ben

  • Well if she refuses to pay, her credit will be trashed, she may end up with a ccj.
You are playing on words, Virgin would mean and probably said that if the recommendation was taken up by mother then the fee would be cancelled.
She should pay up as soon as possible to avoid the above. If there is no address on the letter there would have been one on the envelope.
Do it quick other wise Debt collectors will be involved.
  • I doubt they used that wording, im 90% sure they would have said referred. Similar to the referral offers they have now, eg you get Ј50 if they join, she would have had to sign up, she will just have to pay it
  • You don't say how long ago she stopped paying. She may find that this has already had some impact on her credit file. She needs to pay what she owes, cancel correctly, and check her credit file for any damage this has done.
  • You can't seriously think they would void the ETC on the basis of a 'recommendation? If so, everyone who wanted to escape their contract early would use this as a get-out.
If it's already gone to a DCA then her credit may already have been trashed, so get her to check her credit reference as a priority.
  • You may get a county court judgment (CCJ) or high court judgment if someone takes court action against you (saying you owe them money) and you don't respond.
