Was looking to travel to London by train and found that I am much cheaper flying. The interesting thing I noticed that if you are on Virgin Best Fare Finder it gives you a cheaper price if you search for a return journey rather than a single. Would seem that it is not the Best Fare then. Upset to know that East Coast has lost out to them as East Coast always had better prices. Cheaper for us to go abroad than to London.

• Train fares are so complicated that unless you say what date and time you want to travel, no-one here could help you. With planes you have to stipulate a specific timed plane, and you get low fares. It is the same with trains, when you purchase tickets in advance.
  Even EasyJet charge high prices for walk-up passengers who buy their ticket on the day of their journey.
• I used to find Virgins Best Fare Finder very reliable, but it seems to have gone downhill the last few times I've looked - in particular, it doesn't now appear to show cheaper tickets available for other operators, which show if you look at .e.g. the trainline or the operators own website
