A question about : Viewing People's Bid Amounts Before Auction Ends!

UPDATE 17 September 2004: It would appear that this has now been brought over to the UK version of eBay and therefore there is no need to follow the advice below anymore.

I don't believe this to be illegal as it is shown on eBay's website.

When you look at an item and click on bid history all the bid amount are replaced with "-" until the end of the auction.

To view these amounts before the auction ends when viewing the item change

https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI....

in the address bar to

https://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI....

And then click on the bid history. The bid amounts will be shown.

  • That's a fabulous tip alex
  • I couldnt get it to work, but if i could its sneeky but good
  • This worked fine for me and I could see all the bid amounts on a number of auctions just make sure you only replace the .co.uk with .com.
    Thanks! ;D
  • it didnt work for me first time, but when i then went into the bidding page, then changed it to '.com' it did show the bids.......
blooming sneaky or what.... nice one alexj2002
i wonder if there is a way to view what someones max bid is...... now that would be naughty...... he he
  • You have to be on the actual item listing (where the pictures, description etc. are) not on the bid history when you change the .co.uk to .com
  • It worked for me on the bid history page when I did the swap.
  • nice tip
  • Didn't work for me; kept changing back to .co.uk
  • I can be thick but I don't get why this is a good thing!! You get to see a starting bid and the current bid and can work out the increments these have gone up in by the number of bids - I don't see the advantage of seeing the actual bids unless you could see their max bid. tell me please because when I'm not on here generally on ebay if not simultaneously.
  • Thanks for this Alex ;D V sneaky! I just had a look at a pair of boots I was watching.... started at Ј4.99 and saw the bid had bumped up to Ј12.60 in just 3 bids! So just interesting to see how the bidding goes, I suppose.. Obviously would be v v sneaky if u cud see the max bids! hehehehe!
  • great tip...thanks
    rite...now to shop!!
  • Well, I must be doing something wrong, it just keeps replacing my com with co.uk when I try :-/
  • This is amazing! Thanx alexj2002!
I just don't understand HOW this can happen?? Surely it must be a loophole within eBay and if it is my guess is that it won't be around for very long but good while it lasts! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
  • Genius ! Sheers genius ;D
I have been outbid by just 1 pence - now I know what I have to do
Just hope this tip doesn't get "out" :-X
  • I thought this was some amazing loophole, then I realised it doesn't tell you the other bidders maximum bid, only their current high bid (which your told on the main page anway). What relevance does it have to know what the people bellow the top bidder have bid? You're not competing against these people, your only competin against the top bidder and so only his bid amount is relevant, and that was never kept a secret anyway.
  • Thank-you Thank-you THANK-YOU!!!!
This will be very VERY handy!
    Cheers alexj2002!
