A question about : utility bill from old address

Hi , hope everyone is well , I'm back for some advice . everything has been plain sailing since my BR august 2013.

However just recieved a letter from LCS on behalf of British gas chasing over Ј14,000.

I moved out of the property July 2013 , and stopped paying mortgage in prep for my BR in august. And told Nram to reposess. I told British gas and they closed my account for that address, and opened a new account at my new rented address.

I have now been chased for the period between July 2013 and Oct. 2014 when Nram sold the property on.

Would I be liable from the date I moved out and the date Nram repossessed and sold the house? Also Ј14,000 for gas and leccy is a crazy figure for an empty house ?

Thanks!

  • Are you sure you informed the gas supplier you had left the old property and that the account for that address was closed?
If you did, then I suggest you speak to them about why they are billing you for an address you no longer have a supply at. Hopefully the computer got it wrong - but there is a possibility that the new owner has been happily using the gas supply without paying for it? In theory it should be nothing to do with BR - just an old account that appears not to have been closed.
  • Hi , yes the account was closed for the old address , even have the closing bill taking me to the date I left , and that shows a zero now. The new invoice is from the day after until the date the new owners have moved in following them buying ftom Nram. So covers the time in between. Brit gas have confirmed that their records shows this and have asked to go back to LCS to dispute this , which I have done. They even asked was it a mansion I lived in to get a 14k bill for 10 month. The property was locked and secured and empty from me moving out until tomorrow NRam sold it on .
  • If British Gas have confirmed they do not believe you owe them this money - then they should be calling off the blood hounds surely?!
If you've told LCS that BG agree you don't have a debt then I don't know what else you can do. Perhaps sending a copy of your BR Order to LCS will put them off?
  • Yes have done that now , they said they will refer it back to their 'client' , let's see what happens , have found a few forums posts about LCS they sound hard work
