A question about : Uswitch Gas & Elec wine switching offer: Are you having problems?

What's this about?

In the Cheap Gas & Electricity guide, due to the power of this site there are special links that allow you to compare to get the cheapest supplier plus get cashback/freebies on top.

One of them is that those who switch to a dual fuel deal via Uswitch will get a case of free wine (see the guide for more info). Yet some MoneySavers have reported problems with getting the voucher for the free case of wine.

Check that you are correctly eligible first

Before looking at how to sort it; it's important you check you were actually eligible for Uswitch's wine...
Did you switch via the specific link on MoneySavingExpert.com?

As explained in the guide; these deals are only available if you go via the links on MSE. Go direct to Uswitch and you are not eligible for the free case of wine.

Sadly, things are slightly confused by the fact that go direct and Uswitch has an offer running where you get £40 off wine if you spend £80. Yet if you go via MSE it is a voucher for an entirely free case of wine worth £40.

If you didn't go via MSE then sadly you're not eligible for the free wine.
Did you switch to a dual fuel tariff?

This specific Uswitch deal is only open to those that get both their gas and electricity from one provider on a duel fuel tariff.
When did you switch?

It takes up to three months after you did the switch for you to be sent the voucher. This is because it takes up to 6 weeks for you to go live with your new provider, it then takes another month for that to be confirmed with Uswitch and then after that you get the voucher.

So if it hasn't been three months... then please hold on...

  • I signed up today with uswitch (before I realised some people were having problems!)
    I've used the MSE link, I'm getting dual fuel and I'll let you know when I get the voucher.
    I've taken the v15 E.on deal, so fingers crossed I get todays rates as other packaged (v5?) seem to be going up in price!
  • I got the 'spend £x and get free wine' .
    But this could because I didn't read the T&C's - I can't get a dual fuel deal......... don't have gas!
    OT - have had wine from Virgin wine before and it is good.
  • I switched - only have electric - received the voucher but have not used it as the wines on offer are quite expensive. The voucher (if I remember it coorrectly) only gives you Ј40 of wine when you buy another Ј40 worth - I can buy 24 bottles of wine which I know I like for less than Ј40 so really I don't rate this as a moneysaver at all.
  • We switched back in February - dual switch (elec and gas) - and took up the wine offer. Can't remember whether it was through MSE - but seems more likely through Quidco (see comment below for why).
    The wine voucher (the version that's a straight free case - not the version that's £40 off) came through a couple of weeks ago - just over 3 months, so do be patient. Wine has now been delivered, all free inc delivery.
    The only odd glitch we experienced was positive, not negative - we also got £12 cashback by going with Quido. Which I didn't expect, as we were getting the wine benefit. That validated about the same time as the wine was confirmed and was paid last week. So a case of wine AND £12.00!
    Not sure how we did this - but assume we must have gone via Quidco and found the wine offer on Uswitch... But maybe that combination (ie the free wine case, not the money-off voucher) is no longer an option?
    Or maybe we went through MSE but had already visited Uswitch that day via Quidco and simply got both offers by accident - the Quidco £12 cashback plus the MSE Wine deal. Dunno, but it worked...
  • We emailed uswitch about a month ago as it had been three months since getting our first bill from the new supplier but didn't get a response. About 10 days ago our voucher for Virgin wines was emailed to us and the wine arrived last week. Slightly confused by the original post though - our voucher was through MSE with Uswitch and it was for a free case of wine worth Ј60, not Ј40, or Ј60 off any wine worth more than Ј60 plus free delivery.
  • I switched my gas and electricity - and when I looked in the small print of the confirmation email, it had said that the offer for the free wine had expired. so I rang them and and queried it, they said that I would qualify (I still doubted them so I emailed the query and they confirmed in email that I would get the wine).
    Anyway ... a couple of weeks ago I got the email for my free case of Virgin wines worth Ј60..... and they were delivered last Wednesday.

  • I signed up to dual fuel back in early March 08. I got the voucher for Ј40 free when you spend Ј40 but havent received anything since. Im pretty sure I went through MSE, although not positive. Is there a way I can check this? Did anyone that received the free wine voucher receive the other voucher as well?
    A little confused and slightly miffed if Ive muddled this up. Any help appreciated?

  • We switched when this website said that 'now is the time to switch'. I switched via the link and changed both gas and elec to Eon, it finally went through on 1 May and yesterday we received an e-voucher for a case of wine. I went to the website where when I put the voucher details in I had a credit of Ј59.99. I didn't want the case that they recomend so I created my own case as I like rose and white. I ended up with 13 bottles cos I wanted to spend the whole amount. Please remember p+p is Ј5.99 however this can be included in your voucher, I only had to pay an extra 87p!!! So I got 13 bottles of wine including p+p for 87p!! How fab is that. It does say that it aims to deliver the order within 7 days so hopefully I shall have it for my girls night in next Friday. Fingers crossed. Hope this has made sense to some and put some minds at rest.

  • My voucher was two weeks overdue when I phoned Uswitch last week to chase it up (an e-mail I sent 10 days earlier had not been answered).
    They said my supplier had confirmed my connection and I should receive the voucher very soon...
    ...which turned out to be five days later, ordered my wine Monday and it is now in transit.
    Update 12/06/08 - one case of wine received, first bottle open and breathing...
  • I chased up my voucher today and received my code within a couple of hours - I got a £60 case of wine (no choice about contents) with no delivery charge. I look forward to receiving it!
  • Just to let you know I received my case today less than 48 hours after ordering it.
    FYI if you don't click on the order button for the wine case that automatically comes up but browse the different bottles of wine you can add 12 of your own and make your own case, I just did it cos I am nosey but glad I did.
  • Uswitch have claimed to me yesterday that Virgin only send them 1000 voucher codes per month and at the moment they are only sending codes for February.
    Disgraceful.
  • I have tried chasing up my free case of wine from Uswitch to be advised that because I didn't follow Martin's link to the Uswitch website I am not eligible. Please show me +where+ on your website, Martin, it says I should follow the Uswitch link to be eligible for a case of wine? You have only written that Uswitch are offering a free case of wine and some opinion on its quality. Uswitch advise me you have been on TV to explain that you must click on the link. Martin, I don't watch GMTV... Please update your +website+ with the correct information to avoid disappointing other members with the tricks normally reserved for the more unscrupulous.

    I haven't received any wine and have emailed uswitch twice now since June, using the link suggested in this post - but I've had no response whatsoever!
    Not sure what to do next! Any suggestions?

    As I agreed to their conditions on the Virgin Wine site I know I have no legal redress, so I just hope I can cancel asap and only lose Ј60 to Ј80 pounds.
    Not a very good money saving tip!
