A question about : URGENT

Hi all,

My dad passed away very suddenly and unexpectedly last week. As a family, we are now in the process of cancelling bank accounts and credit cards. However, we cannot find which provider he transferred his (and my mum's) ISAs to. Please can anyone help?

Does anyone know of a way of finding where these ISAs might be? For example, is there some way of searching his National Insurance Number? We are hoping that there is a much simpler way of finding out where the funds are rather than phoning up every bank/building society and asking if they have an account belonging to my dad!?

Any help at all would be much appreciated.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Tim

Best answers:

  • It's probably not fast or easy but you will eventually find the account - if only when they write to say the interest rate will drop.
You / the executor could try https://www.mylostaccount.org.uk/index.htm
  • Sorry for your loss.
It's probably stating the obvious but there must be a trail of paperwork (or electronic equivalent) somewhere, unless he was particularly careless about filing financial documentation?
If there was a transfer of your mum's ISA, does she know which institution it was previously with? They may be able to help, even if this needs a Subject Access Request under the Data Protection Act....
It might also be worth posting your enquiry over on the Deaths, Funerals & Probate board, it's likely that posters there will have encountered this situation before.
