A question about : Unmarked grave query
A neighbour died and had no living family in this country and was therefore put in an unmarked grave paid for by the council.
I managed to contact a brother of his in Oz and he has sent me money to buy things for the grave...Ј40.
My question is this - apart from flowers, would I be allowed to place a plaque or something similar at the graveside?
Best answers:
- You'd have to ask the council. The rules vary from place to place.
- How nice of you OP!
It may depend on if the plot is a 'lawn grave' which means that you may only be allowed to put one item on it such as a plaque or stone urn of flowers so that the council can mow the grass easily.
Your local council will have links to their cemeteries and what's acceptable in each. - many thanks for replies - been told by the council that I am only allowed to place flowers and nothing else. its a shame the grave can't be named.
- Could you plant some bluebells or something associated with his name.
- council says flowers only - had thought about 'forget me nots' but council say no!
