A question about : Unfair charges, Food and Accommodation

Serving at a location which is not pay as you dine. I am being charged food and accommodation. The accommodation charge is fine and fully agree with that. However as part of my duties I daily visit locations that are not military during the day, not arriving back till late at night. So therefore I dont have lunch, and a evening meal due to timings. I do not do breakfast as often I am on the road early in the morning, I am not waking the chef up to cook me breakfast at 5 in the Morning. For practicality I cook for myself and never ever set foot in the mess.

I am being charged food, which is money coming out of my pay that is paying for something I do not have the use of. The Pay staff are constantly questioning my missed meal claims and asking why I have not booked early breakfasts, packed lunches or late plated meals. I am not dragging a chef out in the morning to feed me, nor are the packed lunches of a decent quality, and the plated up food still requires a chef to wait for me to come in and you have no choice.

The simplest arrangement would be to strike me off the ration roll. Is this simple to do? and also can I recover the charges from goods and services I did not order or receive?

The system is archaic and unfair, and its at cost to me.

Best answers:

  • Hi Frank,
The system does not work for you, so you will just need to keep going with the Missed Meal Forms.
    The system wont change.
  • I know people who have come off the ration strength so it is possible, what have they said when you have asked?
  • unless you submit the forms they cant refund you. If they are contracted to supply early breakfast then they have to or give you missed meals, thats the system, i wouldnt worry about dragging people out of bed to cook for you, they dont worry about you do they?
Submitting the forms also gives you documentary evidence to support you request to come off the ration strength!
