A question about : UK Online Masters Degrees

Hi All,

I'm originally from Scandinavia and have been studying in the UK for 4 years now, about to graduate from a reputable UK university, most likely with a first degree (BBA).

For my final year my plan has been all along to complete a online MSc in Business/Management because of the fact that I wouldn't need to stay in the UK anymore and I would be able to find work on the side.

My plan is to move to South-East Asia, where I have built many business connections and plan to find full or part time work along completing my masters degree. Other reasons for moving to Asia include the fact that my student grant will be worth a lot more over there and I also have plans of possibly settling down over there permanently.

To the point: I came across this forum and started reading reviews about the University of Liverpool online courses, which has been so far my first choice becaues of the flexibility in module choices (what I study must be interesting).

However, I read many negative reviews here, some calling it a scam or a diploma factory. Does anyone here have any recent experiences about this university? Now I am very much in doubt about this university and about online degrees in general.

I would be very interested in hearing general opinions about online masters degrees. How are they valued by employers later on? Will the transcript actually say it was an online degree?

Lastly, if you can recommend any other UK universities doing online masters degrees in business, I would be glad to hear. Any discussion on online masters degrees and comparision would be great!

  • So many issues...
To answer the original question: check out the Open University (Open Business School).
The broader issue: doing an MBA does not usually make much sense until you have some solid business experience. And an important part of the benefit of an MBA comes from the personal contacts and face-to-face interaction at a 'top' business school.
  • He's not talking about doing an MBA though voyager, he specifically mentions a MSc in Business/Management. For instance, my own university offers a Masters in Financial Management, among others. At least part of many of those courses can be taken as distance learning (I'm not sure if there is an entire Masters in business that can be done that way, although my own MSc in Information and Library Studies may be studied completely remotely, although I did it full time on campus).
OP, I would suggest that you find a university that offers the course content that you want by distance learning, and which runs that course themselves as part of their postgraduate catalogue, using their own lecturing staff, rather than the rather dodgy set up that you have already found happens at Liverpool.
