A question about : Tyres

..... is at https://www.tyre-shopper.co.uk/
Having realised this morning i need 2 new tyres, this site has come up as the best value for money after getting quotes from garages this morning and surfing the net.
The fitting is done from a selection of centres, with the nearest to me being a National Tyres Centre, which their site quoted me as Ј30 more expensive!

Just thought this may be of use if you need new tryes.

BTW you get Tesco clubcard points added as well

Best answers:

  • I use www.mytyres.co.uk, On my cars tyres 215 55 16 there is more choice and they are cheaper.
  • Also try www.blackcircles.com just ordered 4x Michelin Energy E3B 165/70 R13 T for £165 all in (using 5% discount code). Blackcircles also has a tyre fitting place just down the road from me but I guess that's luck living near a big city. This worked out cheaper than buying the tyres alone from www.mytyres.co.uk and getting them installed elsewhere.
I guess it depends on what your after, and the size of your tyres. The michelin one's I'm getting are only £60 more for all 4 than the cheapest possible ones - and hopefully the manufacturer's claims about tyre mileage and rolling resistance helping reduce fuel consumption a little will be borne out.
Be careful with tyre-shopper as for my car (using vehicle reg and vehicle type), they quoted the incorrect tyre size. Refer to your car manual and the tyre side walls bearing in mind some cars occasionally have different sized tyres on the front and back.
Also after searching this site before originally and looking now after this post, I have made a discovery. When you put in your tyre size, you get 3 tyres, at least for me on first viewing the "view the rest of the range" option wasn't obvious for me. Tyres I ordered from blackcircles would have cost £160 without any discount code. Only a fiver and £1.60 of tesco clubcard points missed out on so not the end of the world. Cheaper but too late for me now
  • I have used https://www.fasttyres.co.uk/ in the past and had good service and seem quite cheap as well.
  • I used tyre shopper last week and found them to be superb. As a MSE (in the making ) the Tesco points were a bonus!
  • Cheapest I found were at my local tyre fitters where they managed to beat Mytyres by offering the same tyres for £4 more inclusive of fitting and balancing than Mytyres wanted for supply only.
  • Me too Conor. Got prices off mytryes went to my local 'railway arch' one man band, only take cash, tyre fitter and he supplied and fitted them for the same price.
  • www.justtyres.co.uk they have xtra discounts, if you print off the on-line price & take to the branch!
& you can download a voucher for another Ј5 off!
    VB
  • I've added FastTyres into the Motoring Index & Links - if there are any online tyre places missing let me know
Some people seem to get good tyre prices at costco, but that depends on whether there's one near you etc.
  • I ordered a pair of tyres on etyres site, using the voucher code. I then got a phone call from them giving me a real load of rubbish.
  • They wanted to charge me to move the rear tyres to the front (they have never charged me for this when I've used them before) claiming they needed to be re-balanced.
  • They also insisted I would need to produce a voucher to the fitter to claim the discount, I see no mention of this from all the successful contributors here and elsewhere.
  • The amount sent to me in the email confirmation was not the same as I had agreed at the time of payment as some of your other contributors have mentioned.
  • I have now cancelled my order and will think twice before I use etyres again as I feel I can't trust them.

  • Looks good - thanks for the tip
  • Don't underestimate your main dealer. I was looking for 245/45 WR 18 Bridgestone Potenzas and my local Mazda dealer was easily the cheapest I could find.
  • Out of curiosity I entered my registration mark into tyre-shopper. The correct vehicle details came up but worryingly the totally incorrect tyre width, diameter and load rating was shown. I know it's possible to just enter correct tyre details and search but it doesn't inspire much confidence when they can't get the correct tyre initially.
I wonder how many people have just gone ahead and ordered with this wrong information only to find the error when the tyres are fitted(or not)! Not much of a saving then unfortunately.
  • saints couple
there is an excellent tyre place near westquay in southampton
its opposite mcdonalds next to leisure world, its very yellow
they seem to price match everyone
i think its on the city trading estate
  • Please, please, please avoid budget tyres for the sake of saving pennies. They are the most important component in making your car stop!
Get the best you can afford, I had a guy run into the back of me because his tyres were crappy TDFs (Taiwanese Ditch Finders), cost him more than the price of some decent rubber.
Good reasonably priced tyres such as Vredestein and Toyo are great for the money.
Oh and if you really want to save money in the long run a cheap set of alloys that take a popular size such as 195 50 15 may be worth considering.
Oldagetraveller - sometimes the tyre company may have sourced their data from abroad where the wheel and tyre packages supplied are different, for e.g. on my Gen5 Celica www.mytyres.co.uk none of the options are correct for the OEM wheels on my car.
  • i also confirm what limey says
i love the way how people bang on about how safe their car is in crash tests then opt for the cheapest tyres they can find
when looking at second hand cars you can often work out what sort of car has gone into the car by looking at the state of the tyres
  • Thanks sainstscouple and brodev, i didnt know there were other places where i could get tyres but then i hadnt looked before
  • yeah cheap ditch finders are false economy ...its all that keeps you on the road
nicer tyres will be quiter too and last longer
