Hi,

I am trying to cancel my setanta sports package but am struggling to get through on their 0871 number. I've sent a couple emails requesting the cancellation and have given the 30 day notice period but haven't had it confirmed from Setanta. I also have cancelled my DD with my bank.

Is anyone else struggling to cancel or is it just me and do you think I have done enough to cancel without being charged any extra money??

  • As long as you are up to date with your payments then cancelling your DD is best way to go I think.

  • I've been through the whole rigmarole with these chancers.
    They are a complete waste of space.
    My advice to cut out the frustration is you need to send a recorded or special delivery letter ( something they have to sign for) giving 30days notice.
    I personally then cancelled my DD and enclosed a cheque for the balance since they had taken two amounts in a previous month and I didn't trust them which was just as well as........
    ..they rung up two weeks later and said they have only just opened my letter so the 30 days notice goes from now......... I told them where the door was and was so pleased I cancelled the DD.
    PS: incidently send it to the fife scotland address as in their T&C's
  • mee too. they phoned me asked why i cancelled dd, i said its because they mugged me off with the joe calgazhe fight. when i had over 10 people around and then the picture went, and due to high number of calls couldnt get thru to the help line........ they told me to ring a number to cancel........cane be bother with that cos i know they are gonna have high volume of calls and no one will answer...............
  • As a follow up setanta finally got the idea and have cancelled my account.
    However, they have cut me off one week early which I guess is no surprise considering their track record.
    What they don't know yet is I will pursue them to either reinstate or refund.
    If neither I will pursue them in the county court.
    This is one flybynight outfit which isn't going to get away.
    Its obviously not for the cost but the principle and the satisfaction
  • Setanta owe us money and we are struggling to get it back. They are useless. I am sick of ringing them to put up with the rudeness and no refund. Will probably go to a local consumer media programme in the new year and get them to help. It is only Ј9.99 but it is money they should not have taken.
  • I have never subscribed to satanta or had the large enough package (virgin) to get it but for some strange reason i have had the channel for the last 2 days (live footy and all) i only noticed it whilst flicking, are they running a promotional freebie or something? very confused as they havn't been taking the extra £10 and i have not even rang them for months. :confused:
  • I got through straight away - i said I was leaving and they gave me a deal jan free and then Ј5 a month there after till ma. End of the footie season and it works out at Ј4 a month then.
    Ask them if you want to stay and they will deinately offer you something.
    Well it worked for me!
  • Following my initial post I rang up Setanta today to confirm my cancellation... and no surprises to find out they never received my letter asking for cancellation and stated they couldn't accept cancellation through email!! They said all letters have to be sent via recorded delivery and were adamant on this so beware when sending letters.
    They said they would have to take my 30 day notice from today over the phone and I would be charged for this period... charming!! but strangely enough when I mentioned I intially signed via the Ј1 for 2 mnths offer they said no charges will be made and they will put my notice in from today!!
    They then made me an offer for Ј5 a month for next 3 months so I accepted... happy days!!
  • They did the same for me, I rang up yesterday to cancel my subscription, I finally got through after a few failed attempts. I explained that I wanted to cancel that I thought Ј10 a month was too much on top of my normal sky bill, and that I was peeved that the day after I signed up for Ј10 I saw an offer for Ј5 a month.
    He offered me Ј5 a month for the next three months, but I will make sure that I ring up to cancel after two months, and see if they offer me it again at Ј5.

  • I rang an 08 number that I got off the website, but I was just reading on the shop but don't drop forum where there is a similar thread and one guy said he rang 01915013601 (I noted it down for future reference) and he managed to get through straight away!! It took me about 5 mins on hold on the 08 number!
  • Signed up for Setanta offer, Ј1 for two months, rang to cancel my subscription and no problems, thought it was sorted.
    Cancelled by DD at the bank to ensure they could take no more payments.
    Last week, got two letters on the same day from Setanta. The one dated 3 Jan said "we are sorry to hear you want to cancel your subscription" and offering me "the next three months of Setanta Sports half price". At the end of the letter is states "we lok forward to welcoming you back to Setanta Sports".
    The letter dated 4 Jan said "we approached your bank for your subscription payment but your bank has returned the request as unpaid" and asked me to contact Customer Services Team within 7 days to clear the outstanding balance.
    Yesterday I got another letter from Setanta again asking me to contact Customer Services re outstanding payment.
    What do you think I should do?

    My hubby wanted to take up theie Ј5 a mth for 3 mths offer, so we set up the direct debit.
    Then we see they took Ј15 the first month. WE thought oh well, they must take it all at once.
    Then when i got the december statement on Jan4th i saw they'd taken another Ј%. I logged onto my bank acc online to cancel the DD to find they'd already taken another Ј5!! So Ј25 in total. I emailed thenm and they said that they had taken a One off Ј10. Well I knew nowt about that!
    Hubby has bene trying to ring them and was left 20 mins on 0871 lastw eek. (At work luckily; not giving them any more money!!])

    maybe we should all contact the news of the world or something and tell them how bad this compnay is.
