A question about : TicketySplit feedback

Hi all,

We've been working on a new version of our TicketySplit split ticket finder tool, which now includes advance deals, as well as walk-on train fares.

We would love as much feedback as possible if anyone has 5 mins to spare, particularly on any glitches you find in results.

What worked for you, what didn't, and did you had any successes using it? If so, please let us know - just click 'reply' to post.

Here is the link: TICKETYSPLIT

Thanks,
MSE Adam

  • Seems to work quite well, wish there was a option to book with a company who dont charge a booking fee though!
  • I tested booking from Gloucester to York, then changed York to Cutty Sark DLR, and it repeated the results from Gloucester to York.
More error checking needed? (Most of the other ticketing systems don't allow Cutty Sark DLR, or make a horrible mess of it if they do...)
Restarting from scratch gave an Oops error message.
  • It doesn't seem to want to split at Banbury when travelling up to Coventry on cross country. I can get two day returns (one to Banbury, one for the banbury to coventry section) for less than the cost of the single ticket it suggests
  • just tried it for the Norwich to London Liverpool Street Route and it worked really well
  • I wondered why tickerty split was down yesterday you were changing it!
I have just tried the journey I booked this afternoon just now which was Banbury (leaving at 12.55pm) to Southampton Central on 15th January 1st class.
Tickerty Split said it couldn't find a split so Ј44
I found my own splits when I did the booking..
Banbury to Oxford (12.55pm) at Ј5.50
Oxford to Basingstoke (13.16) at Ј9.00
Basingstoke to Southampton Central (14.10) at Ј9.00
    Total Ј23.50
I do like the new look though and really hope that whoever is doing the software makes this work well.
    Keep going!
    Good luck!
  • I just tried Manchester to Derby and instead of Off-peak Day Single: Ј24.30 it split to Advance Single: Ј8.00 Advance Single: Ј5.00 Total: Ј13.00 which it correct as I have done this manually myself before.
  • It needs "Other train operating companies also sell tickets and they may not charge additional fees"
  • It would be nice if it could automatically identify cheaper fares at times other than the one specified.
  • Thanks for the feedback so far - keep it coming!

  • I like the idea of this tool, but it hasn't managed to save me any money thus far.
What would be very helpful would be if the tool remembered what you had entered before when you press "Search again" so you don't have to repeat all details like the date and railcards again. I don't know if this would be possible?
  • Also, the "Feedback" link underneath the search bar takes you to a dead link.
  • Not working for me - it's trying to cost me more money!
It's not taking into account the advanced price.
    It's saying A to C = Ј42.75 (anytime single)
    So it's recommending
    A to B: Ј9.90 (advance single)
    B to C: Ј13.05 (anytime single)
    Total Ј22.95
And it's saying I need to change trains at point B despite it being a direct journey, so all I should need to do is stay on the train and show a different ticket - think maybe it's just worded badly?
Anyway, National Rail price the journey at Ј15 for an advance, which MSE isn't showing at all
    Also

  • Doesn't The Trail Line also charge a delivery fee (or card fee) in addition to the booking fee?
  • Hi starrybee - can you let me know the travel details you were looking at please?
    Thanks,
    MSE Adam
  • Unfortunately, this failed on 3 separate routes for me. On all routes it said there were cheaper options available, but then when I clicked through to trainline.com the tickets were priced more expensively.
    The routes were:
    London - Macclesfield - 13:00 on Sat 15th
    London - Warrington - 12:20 on Sat 15th
    London - Manchester - 12:40 on Sat 15th
For what it's worth, redoing the searches on ticketysplit all three were no longer able to be split, but I think it's very unlikely availability on all 3 routes changed in the short time between ticketysplit finding them and me clicking through to the trainline site.
  • You're best waiting for the Raileasy website to be launched. It will be much better than the Ticketysplit app, and will offer "splits" that involve more than two tickets. It will charge an fee, but any fees will cover the whole booking, not just each ticket.
  • Ive just been using this app as I want to go to Manchester on 3rd may but its sending me up via Sheffield on a train out of St Pancakes - is this right? Yeah the price looks nice but its an hours extra journey time.
  • It's a trade-off between journey time and price. For a London-Manchester trip, look at Advance fares on Virgin out of Euston (ticketysplit just analyses walk-up fares i.e. ones you could buy on the day at the moment).
