A question about : Tastecard

Has anybody else had a restaurant listed on the site say they are not a member?

I visted the Metro Fish Bar (Whitefield, Manchester) yesterday (listed on Tastecard) website and was advised that Tastecard had put them on the site without their permission? They had asked to be removed but are still showing.

No discount was therefore offered.

Has anybody else had this problem?

Wondering if it's Tastecard or the restaurant who are lying!! Someone clearly is!!

Best answers:

  • I haven't even received my Tastecard for the "3 months free" offer that I was sent yet.
  • I've been wondering the same - still no card. Has anyone received their's? It would be handy to know
  • I haven't received my card and feel embarrassed as I sent the link to my friends and 4 of them signed up to it too. NONE of us have received our "free" card, so much for the good deal. We have however all been spammed by tastecard so they have received our applications. I don't think Martin should be promoting this dodgy company who are using MSE and Martin's good name to phish for people's emails addresses.
I would be interested in hearing about others experiences with tastecard. Perhaps Martin can follow up the missing cards if this proves to be a widespread problem?
  • i received my card yesterday with a 3 month trial, so yes they do come eventually
not overly impressed though as in my area its mainly pizza shops
  • Mine arrived today.
  • Mine arrived today!
  • I ordered mine on 29 September, and it came today, 7 October. The instructions are to check the website to choose a restaurant, then ring it to book a table, mentioning that you are a Tastecard member. I can't tell if it's any use or a con yet, but they haven't got any card details, so I can put up with the possibility of any hassling at the end of my free month!
  • I paid Ј29.95 for a 12 month taste card. I've used it a couple of times already and saved more than I paid for it at one trip to Livebait in Manchester (only two of us were eating). I'd say make sure you book in advance if that's what the restaurant requires and if possible take the name of the person confirming the booking. We eat out a lot and can see this saving us quite a bit of money over the year.
  • It's not a con my housemate and brother have had one and they've come in very handy. It's better in big cities as there's more choice. It was Taste London, but have since expanded. My brother got the 3 month trial a couple years ago, then didn't renew until they offered him a big enough discount for 12 months. As long as you follow the instructions like phoning to book a table and some restaurants have restrictions like not saturdays. It's good if you eat out enough. Found some really cool restaurants in London because of Taste
  • You can get a years Taste Card membership from Ј1.50 on e bay at the moment. It was a Carphone Warehouse offer, free years tastecard with a PAYG phone and various people seem to be selling the voucher. I paid Ј2, code by e mail filled in the form and a week later got the card.
  • I didn't get the tastecard, so i tried a different company in called gourmet society i think, not as many places registered. However i now live in Stockholm! If anyone wants it, message me. I won it on madbid for 1p with Ј4.99 postage.
    Thanks,
    Cam
  • I got mine with the 3 month trial - I used it at Ask a couple of times and another independent local restaurant.
It was most useful at a pub just up the road from where we were staying on holiday - the food was 50% off with the tastecard and it was of a very high standard.
Used it 5 times in total and was sorry when it expired.
  • My family & I LOVE Tastecard and it has saved us HEAPS & is the only way we can afford to eat out now!
We do the same , especially on a weekday , just ring & book for 10 mins later for our local one ( we practically live there now it is so cheap with the discount )
I have only had problems once , pre-booked , they said yes we accept Tastecard for 50% off but when we GOT THERE they said no as there is already a 'special menu' ( unlimited rodeo grill ) so there will be no discounts!
It was my exes Birthday treat meal for me at a restaurant I had been itching to try so as he said he didn't mind we went ahead and ate there anyway
  • What really annoys me is that restaurants can just opt out without warning. Was going to GBK in Canary Wharf on a weekly basis with my Tastecard until one day it just turns out they don't accept it anymore...
  • I've just renewed for my second annual Tastecard.
As a matter of course, I always ask on entry into a restaurant if I can use my Tastecard (even if it doesn't specify pre-booking is required) and no batted eyelids as yet.
Personally, having the card has saved me a lot and I've had 100% positive experience with it.
  • I got a "free" year's Tastecard by changing currency with ICICI a couple of months ago. The exchange rate wasn't the best available, but did mean that I effectively for a year's Tastecard for under Ј20.
It is a quite full of uninspiring chain restaurants, but there are a few interesting places on there (personal favourites include Tierra Peru in Islington and The Hill in Greenwich). I've already saved over Ј100 with it.
  • I found the same - it's embarrasing.
changed now from an annual tastecard to a Hi-Life Go smartphone app which is free for a month and then lets you pay as you go and just top up whenever you want for only Ј1.99 a month - perfect coz then if im not eating out that month i doesnt cost me anything.
