A question about : Talk Talk

Just had a scam call from somebody claiming to work for Talk Talk.

She had a very strong Indian accent and claimed her name was Rachel Smith. She told me that she was based in the UK, so I pushed to find out where and she told me that she was in Florida title=ROTFL

I played along for a bit, she did the usual trick of getting me to view the events log (which looks worrying but isn't) but she tried getting me to go to a website where she could take control of my desktop, at this point I told her I knew she was lying and ended the call.

The worrying thing was she had all of my Talk Talk details correct (account number, name, postcode). Be warned I suspect Talk Talk have been hacked.

While talking with 'Rachel Smith' I could hear a lot of other ladies with Indian accents reading off the same script...presumably all of them in Florida.

Best answers:

  • Hello
Part of TalkTalk is in India and is showing as Pipex.
  • We have also experienced the same issue. Someone supposedly from Talk Talk has been ringing at least twice daily. This morning at 7.30am I answered the phone fearing that a relative had had an accident, only to be told that there were 'serious problems with my internet'. The lady with the very strong accent told me that I needed to log on to my computer so that they could do a virus search and that this virus would not be detected by my usual virus software.
At this point I realised that this was a lot of nonsense and I hung up. However, I am extremely concerned that they had my name, telephone number and account number also.
I hope something will be done to sort this out. Aside from formally complaining to Talk Talk (which I've done) I don't know what else to do.
  • Had an emai from 'Talk a Talk' inviting me to pay my monthly instalment now. I pay by direct debit and saw this as a very clever phising scam. The Talk Talk website said ignore this and the email the day before in Chinese.
What concerns me is they knew to the penny what the next bill is and had my account number. On the talk talk website they simply describe this as something to be deleted. Clearly this is a major security breach which should be investigated as a breach of the data security act. Talk talk in denial?
