A question about : Supplier wants to change delivery charge

I order some kitchen components (one end panel and a length of cornice) and the website qouted delivery at Ј10 plus VAT.

I have just received an email saying delivery will be Ј75+vat.

Having paid by card on website, can they make this change?

As it will match the kitchen I have I really don't have anywhere else to go - so do I have to swallow the change - fight it and risk getting nothing or fight it and end up having to pay it just to get the items.

Not naming and shaming as everything else has been excellent so far wi this kitchen.

Thanks

Best answers:

  • Did you get an order confirmation (e.g. email) that confirmed the delivery charge?
How much is Ј75 versus the cost of what you've ordered? (It does sound like a lot though - are they delivering it wrapped in Mink fur protection or something? )
Ultimately, it sounds like they're trying to vary the contract. As such you are at liberty to reject their variance, but they can equally decide to cancel the contract. (Assuming there is actually a formal contract in place yet - it depends on the T&Cs).
  • How long is the length of cornice?
It is probably that which has raised the carriage price.
What website did you order from?
  • why do I get the feeling they used to ship with citylink and now they have to pay true volumetric charges...
Bet its the size of the item causing the excess charge.
  • At that price get it yourself or a local man with a van
