A question about : Stunning house plant

Now that my Christmas tree is down I'd love a big houseplant to put in the corner. It's quite bright, but the house is centrally heated

Any ideas?

Best answers:

  • I am attempting to grow a Bird of Paradise plant . Now if that ever flowers, would be a real talking point.
  • Kentia palm (aka Sentry Palm)
    Schefflera actinophylla (aka umbrella tree)
Monstera Deliciosa (aka swiss cheese plant)
  • How about a banana? I think they look great and quite unusual. I got one years ago as a small plant but they grow very quickly to a metre or so high (if you get a dwarf variety). They die off after a few years if they fruit (I actually got a few small bananas!) but put up new shoots from the base so you can start again and give some away.
  • How about a Hoya they look good even without flowers but smell lovely when in flower. I also grow Anthuriums which seem to flower constantly
  • Thanks so much for your suggestions. Love the sound of them- might have to go with more than one!
  • Be careful with Swiss cheese plant. They can get quite tall also the things that look like roots can attach themselves to walls. I have to periodically check mine now to make sure it doesn't stick to wall. If you over water them they also weep water from leaves. Other than that they good houseplants
