Just reading the Lidl newsletter and am interested in this Steam Cleaner

Does anyone use something like this and is it worthwhile buying?

  • I've got a bigger version, does the cooker a treat
(I hate doing it ! but this makes it much easier)
also does a good job of the Windows
  • You are surprising me again
  • when you live on your own you have to do these things !!
us blokes like the minimum of effort
  • There's a few other threads on the subject of steam cleaners here and here. IIRC someone complained about the smaller ones needing to be constantly refilled, and them being a waste of money. I bought an Earlex wallpaper stripper kit with all the attachments to make it a cleaner from Argos. It is very good and much more powerful than all of the handheld steamcleaners at the sub Ј40 mark.
  • thats the one i have !!!
just been in woolies and they are doing them for Ј26.99 today (10% off everything today only)

  • Read the threads, thanks for those link, didn't think to search
Now I had decided that for Ј15 it would be worth it for defrosting the freezer alone (door left slightly open recently and the whole thing iced up) and cleaning the cooker...
Now you throw another one into the equation that needs to be bought today
Mind you, I don't think I would have space to store that anywhere, bit more thought needed now
  • this will confuse things for you then ......Ј3.49

    Fridge and Freezer Defroster
Fridge and Freezer Defroster Manufacturer: Servisol
    •Simplifies defrosting
•Removes the need to scrape or chip
    •Saves time
•Also suitable for use on frozen car door locks
    •Supplied in a 200ml aerosol can
  • Mmmm think the state my freezer is in I would need to spend Ј15 on the sprays to get it cleared
  • I just put large bowls full of hot water in the chest freeezer and close the lid - replace hot water every 20 mins and it works fine.
  • Which recommends the Electrolux 370 - I'm looking for one on Ebay at the moment, plenty on there, almost daily. They retail at 139.99 but are buy it now for Ј54.99 or you could try your hand at the auctions like me - hope that helps :0)
  • Well, on Friday I "invested" in a steam cleaner. I'd considered doing this for a while but was unsure if it was worth the money or the effort, until a relative told me how great they were, as she had just borrowed one from a friend.
I saw one for sale in Woolworths reduced from Ј39.99 to Ј24.99. Well that seemed good to me so I bought one.
Today, I cleaned my microwave with it-it did a brilliant job, I cleaned the windows in my lounge with it, did a couple of hard floors with it, cleaned my oven and the oven shelves-I just couldnt stop myself!
Then I tried it on a bakingtin which had old burned on black stuff on it-now that put it to the test-it cleaned off most of it and would have made it like new if I'd persevered.
I'm hoping to clean my rollerblind in the bathroom next, rather than cutting a foot off of the bottom, as previously intended(it is rather grubby).
Considering all the chemical cleaners I am no longer going to need, I think that I will soon save what I have spent-over the next 12 months certainly. So I think this is not only money-saving but time-saving-especialy where the microwave and the oven shelves were concerned. Also, I didnt get soaking wet like I usualy do, when I attempt to clean the windows!
  • Hi angelatgraceland,
I'm delighted to hear of your great results with your steam cleaner. I hope that you don't mind if I merge your thread with the existing one on this board.
    Pink
  • Bought the hand held steam cleaner this morning from Lidl and looking forward to trying it out this afternoon. Thanks for all the replies, I did consider the one from Woolies but I just don't have the room to keep it where I can put this hand held under the sink
Think I might start with the freezer then move on to the three 15 pane glass doors that I can hardly see through at the moment.
  • I also bought this steam cleaner this morning and am really impressed with it for Ј14.99. I've just been steam cleaning everything in sight!!
One particular use which I haven't heard mentioned before, is getting all those years of accumulated dust out of radiators.I just blasted it out from top to botttom, and then hoovered it up.
Oh well, back to the bathroom tiles.
  • Has anybody tried cleaning a rollerblind yet? Im planning to but dont know if its advisable or not(Im not taking it down-doing it in situ as it were)
  • Hi angel i went out today and bought the same one as you because of you post and oh my god i couldn't put the dam thing down although its not fantastic at cleaning carpets, but i have now found my tiles under god knows how much grime (just moved and previos owner was not very house proud) i was planning on getting one for ages but could not take the dirt any longer and was just aboust to ask someone to recomend one and found this post. Hope you have fun with it, i can't wait for tommorow so i can clean something else with it (bit of a clean freak, sorry)
  • I blame it on Kim and Aggie myself! Or perhaps we are in early stages of OCD! Glad you found my post useful though-2 friends of mine have also bought them now-Woolys should be giving me shares!
  • definate OCD i get it from growing up in a house that was always a lot less than clean, my house if full of toys and other waste made by family but my god is it clean underneath, now i just save money on all those chemicals which arn't good for us or the enviroment. (greenpeace should be pleased with us)
  • That was one of the reasons I wanted one-I have this cupboard full of chemicals which I find humiliating to say the least! They sort of spilled over from the days when i used to sell Kleeneze. Now that was bad for me! I want to reclaim that cupboard and use it for all of those big cooking pots I now have! Your house sounds like mine-well lived in. I always say that mine may not be super clean vut if there is dirt its only fresh dirt-nothing nasty. Bathroom is next on the agenda but I will have to leave the windows open and so I need a day with decent weather. I can always use the dehumidifier after though to compensate.
