A question about : Static Caravan Query.

Hi, Does anyone on here own a sited static caravan? We are considering buying one and I have a few questions?
Are there any small sites that don't tie you up in knots?
I know with some sites you have to do all your booking through them, they tell you when to sell, how much to sell for, etc., etc.
We would like to use the van and let out occasionally. Any advice much appreciated.
We are looking at sites in South Wales or Devon.
Thanks
Nick

  • if you use the search function , many threads all come up with the same conclusion. Do not buy a static caravan! You have been warned!
  • Yes, I think I have reached that conclusion.
    Thanks
  • do not buy a static caravan if you expect to make some big money . use it yourself for your family and close friends . rent it out to HELP with the rents . check all the details and small print . (I own a static in north wales . never rented it out as they don't allow sub letting although people do . lots and lots of "close friends "
  • I own a static caravan on a managed site (park resorts) and it doesn't cost me a penny in site fees or other charges. I let it out for just 10 weeks of the year. The rest of the time it's mine for free. There's loads of threads on here where I have given detailed advice about buying a caravan if you look in my history.
The main thing is youve got to think long haul. Loads of people buy one then want to sell it back 2 years later. You need to keep your caravan for 10 years at least to not be be out of pocket.
  • Also be aware they do wear out faster than houses - remember to factor replacement and the costs of removal/contract-end into your sums
  • Also factor in the cost of boiler safety inspections.
You are legally responsible if you sublet for financial gain ( or wording to that effect) if anyone was to be harmed by your failure to do so the consequences are serious.
