A question about : Standing water from United utilities property

Hi,

This summer we suffered serious flood damage when standing water from a United Utilities site escaped into our propery.

The insurance company have paid for the damage (nearly Ј25000), but we're very concerned this will happen again. Last night we had a minor flood, but luckily no water entered my propery, although we could here it running under the house through the air gap.

United Utilities have told us it's not their responsibility to provide protection from future flooding and have told me to get some localise flood protection. That's fine, but all it's going to do is pass the flood onto my elderly next door neighbours (we are the low point in the road) and we feel this is just unfair and can't afford to build protectors for both of us.

Has anyone got any ideas/advice on what to do. We've asked my MP to write to them, and the replies have been the same to him as they have been to us (albeit a little swifter). We don't really want the expense of a solicitior, but feel we may be forced into it.

All help would be gratefully recieved.
